"Gentlemen, I'm sure you're wondering why I called you here. . ." Agent McCallister crossed his arms, looking out over the crowd of agents assembled before him.

"Not as much as I'm wondering why you're wearing bunny slippers."

"Casual Friday. But the matter I must discuss is of much more importance. It seems that we. . . well, we, uh. . . we lost. . . s- some states."

There was a collective blink in amazement. "Excuse me?" one agent spoke up, "Did you say you lost some states?"

"Some of southern Montana, most of Wyoming and a small piece of Idaho, to be specific."

"What do you mean, you LOST them!?"

"Well, they're just. . . gone. Nothing but a slightly charred field is left."

"How did it happen!?" asked the liason from OSF, the Organization of Secercyishness Force, the government agency whose sole purpose was to prevent anyone from finding out they existed. No one really knew what good that did, but it sounded very impressive on a resume.

"We don't know. And we have Johnson to thank for that, don't we?" he turned to an agent who was standing facing a corner with his hands behind his back.

"Yes sir. I'm sorry sir."

"Don't come out of that corner until you think about what you've done! Johnson," he adressed the crowd again, "Fell asleep during monitor duty yesterday night when this happened."

"So. . . should we tell the president?"

Everyone assembled laughed uproariously.

"Sorry everyone," said McCallister through chuckles, "He's new here. What I DO propose doing is roping off the area which has dissappeared, put some hasmat crews there, tell everyone there was a small nuclear spill."

"But won't people begin to get suspicious? I'm sure plenty of people have already noticed all that land vanishing."

"Yes, there was even one family who had half their house dissappear along with it. We've already issued a statement: "What are you talking about? What's Wyoming?"

The group began applauding.

"Thank you, thank you. But, we've got to think about this coverup. . . someone go boil some coffee, it's going to be a long night."
