One Thursday afternoon Alexandra was standing in the hall way with her friends: Mariah, Nancy, Cory, and her secret crush Nathan. They were talking about their plans for the next night. "You guys wanna catch a movie together?" Nathan asked.
"That sounds great!" Alexandra said flashing Nathan a smile.
The others agreed too, Alexandra wished that Nathan could see her as more than a buddy. Just then Michael Holmes walked by; he was a school geek that a lot of kids made fun of. "Hey buddy wanna twinkie?" Cory asked with a chuckle.
"Cory stop being such an ass!" Nancy scolded.
"But it's funny! I love watching him get so mad," Cory replied.
"Man, that's not cool," Nathan replied.
Cory rolled his eyes at his friends. "You guys just don't know how to have fun."
Michael hung out with two other boys Jimmy and Richard Moore. As Alexandra was about to say something more she heard a scream and a loud bang. "Oh my god!" Someone screamed.
Alexandra grabbed Nancy and Mariah. 'What's happening?' Her head screamed. Just then Michael came running back down the hall flashing a silver pistol. "Everyone get down!" He shouted.
"Michael stop this!" A teacher pleaded. Michael took one look at her and shot her. Mariah gasped and ran to the teacher. Alexandra and Nancy both followed her. Nathan and Cory stayed back and did what they were told.
"Is she dead?" Alexandra asked looking at the teacher.
Mariah grabbed the teacher's wrist and checked for a pulse. After a minute she looked back at her friends and nodded solemnly. Tons of kids had said they hated their teachers because they made them do stupid work and squealed on them if they did something wrong, but no one wanted to see a teacher die.
Alexandra looked back to her locker and saw Cory and Nathan. Michael hadn't forgotten about Cory's earlier remark and was over there in a flash. "How does it feel to know you're going to die?" He asked.
"If you're going to kill him kill me first," Nathan said walking in front of Cory. Alexandra felt the tears well up in her eyes. Nathan was willing to die with Cory. Michael was standing across the hall from them; they could both see the sickening grin cross his lips.
In the back round Alexandra and her friends could hear screams of pain and cracks of pistols. "I might just have to do that," He replied still grinning.
As he cocked the pistol faint screams of sirens could be heard in the distance, this didn't stop Michael. "Any last words you two?" Michael asked tilting his head to the side.
Alexandra could see the tears welling in Nathan's eyes. Not knowing what was coming over her Alexandra jumped up and ran over to Nathan. "No!" She screamed jumping in front of her friends.
A deafening sound was heard and Alexandra fell to the ground. "Alex!" Nathan shouted falling beside her. Just then the cops ran into the school building and tackled Michael; you could also hear the protests of Jimmy and Richard, as they were carried away.
"Nancy, Mariah?" Alexandra said in a whisper.
"We're here," Nancy said grabbing her hand. "We'll always be here."
"My friends," She said smiling faintly.
"Alex, Alex stay with me." Nathan commanded moving her hair out of her face.
"Alex I'm so sorry, it's all my fault!" Cory cried helplessly.
"No, Cory, no, he would have still done it, and I would have saved you, you guys are my friends, I could never live without you," Alexandra replied feeling a tear fall down her cheek.
"Alex stay awake!" Nancy shouted as Alexandra closed her eyes.
She opened her eyes again and looked up at Nathan who was holding her head up. Tears fell down his face as he watched Alexandra struggle for breath. Alexandra reached up and brushed his tears away. "I'm sorry to put you guys through all this pain," She sobbed.
"No, don't you be sorry!" Mariah scolded.
"Cory, I'm so glad I got to know you, everyone else might have thought you were a little pest, but I could see past that, past all of it. Mariah, you could always make me laugh, no matter how sad I was, when my father died, you helped me find happiness again, thank you." Alexandra paused to catch her breath.
"Alex don't talk it's hurting you," Cory begged with tears falling down his face.
"Nancy," Alexandra said ignoring her friend's plea. "I've known you since first grade, and you've always been there for me, through my problems, my joys, my crushes, thank you my friend." Alexandra couldn't help it she broke down. She buried her head in Nathan's shoulder.
"Nathan . . . I've always liked you. Since the first day of seventh grade when I found out you had a locker next to me. I may have tried to hook you up with Ashley, but I was envious of her. I really was. I'm so sorry I never got a chance to tell you until now. I guess it's true what they say, 'cherish every moment for it very well may be your last.' Alexandra searched Nathan's eyes for emotion but couldn't tell what emotion she saw.
"Kid's is she still alive?" A policeman asked coming up behind them.
"Yeah, yeah she is," Nathan said still looking at her.
"I love you all so much it hurts, I'll be waiting for you," Alexandra said with heavy breaths in between.
With that said Nathan kissed her softly on the lips. "Alex don't leave! Come back!" Nancy said starting to sob.
"Don't remember me this way, but the fun, happy me," Alexandra whispered.
After those touching words were spoken Alexandra Kay Right closed her eyes never to be opened again.
