Jaded Windows

Chapter 1

She looked out her window and thought to herself, "Wow! He is gorgeous." She was looking at the new boy next door. She pulled on a yellow tank top and a pair of blue jean shorts, stepped into her slip-ons and ran down the stairs.
"Ahh, there's my darling," her father said as she almost ran into him stepping off the stairs. "And quite beautiful we look today. I love it when you leave your precious blonde hair alone, the way God intended it. Your mother will be happy to see you like that.
"Yes, well she shouldn't get used to it. Sparks, Guy, and Marcie will be back in town in about two weeks."
"Ah, Yes, of course. Well, I have to go," he said kissing her on the cheek. "See you tonight, my love."
"Later, Dad," she replied smiling. She loved her father. He seemed to understand her far better than her mother. Of course, he gave her looks when she was with them, but he accepted it. He didn't throw a fit like her mother. Anyway, she couldn't do anything about that now, so she continued out the door to examine the new neighbors.
She sat down on the steps and watched the movers taking a giant chair off the truck. She didn't see the boy, not the one who looked about her age anyway. She saw what must have been his little brother, however.
"Stanley, get in here," the boys' mother called and the smaller brother ran inside.
'I wonder where the older one went?' she thought looking at the movers lazily.
"Hi," she heard a male voice say behind her.
She turned around and looked up to see him, the Greek god, the Apollo. "Umm, hi."
"Enjoying the show?" he asked with a smile that melted every ounce of her reserve and any lingering thoughts of Sparks.
"Positively," she replied standing up with calculated movements.
"My name is Donovan," he said smiling that same smile.
"That's a nice name," she replied her face flushing as she realized the stupidity of the statement.
"Its served me well I suppose. Do you have a name, or do they simply call you gorgeous?"
"Oh, sorry. It's Jadlin. Jade for short."
"Beautiful, perfectly suiting," he replied taking her hand in his own and carefully placing his lips on it. "It is wonderful to meet you, my lady."
"Donovan!" the mother called across the yard.
"Coming Mom!" he called back. "Sorry, you know moving day, kind of hectic. Well, I'd really like to get to know you. Umm, how would you like to go out tomorrow night, perhaps show a newbie like me what there is to do in this little town? I'm not too optimistic about a place called Shady Falls, but I'm sure there's plenty to find out there with such a pretty girl."
"Um, okay. I guess so," she replied smiling at him gingerly.
"Great. I'll see you later," he replied bowing as he left.
