Chapter 10

Happy Birthday

          Seiki rolled around on the couch. Toriko showed no signs of leaving and she still refused to answer any of Seiki's questions.

          Seiki slowly opened her eyes only to wince at the bright sunlight.

          "Argh...What time is it?" Seiki glanced at her clock. "5:00..."

          Seiki relunctantly got up from the couch and made her trip to the bathroom.

          "...Great, just great..." mumbled Seiki in the bathroom.

          Akira walked into the kitchen. He raised an eyebrow at Seiki, who had her head on the table.

          "What, did you break a mirror with your face or something?" asked Akira. Seiki lifted her head and growled at him.

          "Shut it, Ass! Leave me alone," snapped Seiki. She rested her head on the table.

          "But you made all this wonderful food for me! How can I turn down such powerful expressions of love?" smirked Akira as he sat down and grabbed a plate. Seiki just groaned.

          Akira turned on the radio and raised the volume.

          "Wouldn't it be nice if we were older~? Then we wouldn't have to so lo~ng!"

          Seiki raised her head and burst out crying. Akira stared at her. He turned off the radio.

          "Hey, what's wrong?" asked Akira.

          "I read the lyrics last month and it made me really sad!" sniffed Seiki.

          "Okay...What's the song about?" asked Akira.

          "I-It's about how these people want to be older because they want to get married," replied Seiki. Akira frowned at Seiki.

          "What's so sad about that!?"

          "It made me realize how lonely I am."

          "Hey, what am I then?" asked Akira, insulted.

          "You're not who I want, Akira..." said Seiki, staring straight into Akira's eyes.

          "..." Akira couldn't make a snappy comeback. Seiki never looked at him like this before.

          "Eeeewwww...Seiki, you're on your period, aren't you? There's some blood in the bathroom--" asked Toriko as she came into the kitchen. She noticed the tensed air between Seiki and Akira.

          "Don't tell me you two are at it again! It's too early for that," sighed Toriko. Akira got up from his seat.

          "I'm gonna change," he said before quickly leaving. He went to his room and closed the door. He sighed and leaned against the door.

          "My plan's working...But...I don't understand why it hurts..." murmured Akira.

          Seiki opened the door for Rin.

          "Rin, why aren't you in your uniform?" asked Seiki.

          "I just came to give you your present!" said Rin, presenting Seiki her gift.

          "Huh? Present? Where are you going?" asked Seiki, taking the present.

          "Seiki!!!" cried Rin, playfully punching her friend. "Don't tell me you've forgotten your birthday!"

          "Ow!" laughed Seiki. "Today's the eighth, huh? I didn't notice."

          "Hey, I'll help you look for a job when I come back, okay? I have to go to my granny's funeral. I'll be gone for two days," said Rin.

          "Oh, right...I forgot about your grandma..." said Seiki. "That's okay, Rin! Izumi and Akari can help me."

          "You sure?" asked Rin, giving her friend a cautious look. Seiki gave her a vigourous nod.

          "Yep! I'll be fine, Rin--don't give me that look! I can take care of myself," replied Seiki, pushing Rin. "Now go to your granny."

          "...Ok. BUT!!! I wanna be with you if anything happens between you and Kouji, ok!? So, no contact with Akarui-san, kapeesh?" asked Rin. Seiki blushed.

          "Fine! Look, your brother's coming. See you, Rin!" agreed Seiki.

          "Bye!" said Rin before running to her brother.

          "Onee-chan! School's going to start soon," called Yuu, standing next to a glum Akira. Seiki looked at him suspiciously.

          He's been too quiet...Something's big gonna happen. I just know it!

          "Hey, this one sounds good!" cried Izumi, pointing to a space in the newspaper. All three girls read the ad. Seiki blushed, too embarrassed to say anything.

          "Izumi, that is a job for a stripper," sighed Akari.

          "Oooooh...I see," said Izumi, grinning nervously. "Um...What about this one?"

          "That's a dating ad," stated Akari.

          "Oh, ok...I like this one! Do you, Sei-chan?" asked Izumi, pointing to another ad.

          "Izumi, that's not even a job! It's just a picture of a hamburger!" said Akari.

          "I know! I'm just hungry!" said Izumi. Akari sighed.

          "I can work at that hamburger place, um...The Moo! I saw a 'Help Wanted' sign last week!" said Seiki suddenly. She hugged Izumi.

          "Thanks for reminding me, Izumi! I'm going to get the application now!" said Seiki, running to The Moo.

          "Buy me a burger, Sei-chan!!!" shouted Izumi. Akari folded her arms and sighed.

          "Waahhh...Cramps..." mumbled Seiki as she slowed down. She hugged her stomach and continued walking.

          It hurts so much...I don't think I can walk any longer.

          "Oh!" Seiki's head had connected with a person's stomach.

          "Sorr--" started Seiki as she was about to lift her head.

          Wait...I haven't seen Shigure all day...Oh, PLEASE GOD, DON'T LET IT BE SHIGURE!!! ANYONE BUT SHIGURE!!!

          "Are you alright, Shinzui-san? You seem to be in pain," said a worried voice. Seiki's eyes widened.

          "Noooo! God, why do you torture me so!?" cried Seiki.

          "...Shinzui-san?" said a confused Kouji. Seiki clasped her hands over her mouth.

          SHIT!! I said that out loud!?

          Kouji stayed where he was and stared at Seiki.

          MOVE LEGS, MOVE!!! WHY WON'T MY LEGS MOVE!?!

          "...I've been looking for you, Shinzui-san," said Kouji, looking rather nervous.

          "WHAT!?" blurted Seiki, putting her hands over her mouth again. Kouji chuckled. Seiki's heart pounded rapidly against her chest.

          HOLY SHIT!! He--Kouji--WAS LOOKING FOR ME!!!

          "Um, your friends told me it was your birthday today and uh...I wasn't sure what to get you..." stuttered Kouji as he took something out of his backpack. He gave his present to Seiki.

          OH MY GOD!!! HE BROUGHT ME A TEDDY BEAR!!! A TEDDY BEAR!!! ...I shall name this teddy bear, Kouji Jr.!

          "Thank you, Akarui-san! It's adorable!" said Seiki as she took the bear. Kouji blushed and smiled.

          "Happy birthday...Seiki. I'm glad you like it," said Kouji. Seiki blushed.

          HE CALLED ME SEIKI!!! SEIKI!!!

          "Seiki...Is it true that you're going out with the transfer student from America?" asked Kouji.

          "What!? NO WAY!! I mean, no. No, Kouji," replied Seiki.

          "Then, would you go out with me?" asked Kouji, blushing furiously.

          PLEASEDON'TLETTHISBEADREAMPLEASEDON'TLETTHISBEADREAMPLEASEDON'TLETTHISBEADREAM!!! PLEASE DON'T LET THIS BE A DREAM!!!

          "S-Sure!" answered Seiki, squeezing Kouji Jr.

          "Is Saturday at Kami Theatre ok with you?" asked Kouji. Seiki nodded her head.

          "Yes!!"

          "I'll see you there at 6:30, ok? I gotta go now--Bye Seiki!" said Kouji as he turned around and started running.

          "Bye Kouji!!" said Seiki. She waited for him to disappear. Then the squealing, jumping, and running began.

          "HE ASKED ME OUT!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE WE'RE GOING TO THE MOVIES!! TOGETHER!!!" screamed Seiki as she ran.

          "CAN YOU BELIEVE IT, KOUJI JR.!?" she asked the bear as she stopped running and began jumping. She pulled on the bear. In her excitement, she did not notice how strong her grip was...She pulled off one of the teddy bear's arms. Seiki stared at it in horror.

          "NOOOO!!! KOUJI JR.!!!" she screeched, frantically pushing the arm into the body, trying to stick the arm back. Suddenly, everything was black.

          "Ehhh?" squeaked a confused Seiki.

          "Guess who!" Seiki stopped breathing. And let out an ear-piercing scream.

          Seiki came home with a grungy appearance. Her hair was a mess and she was covered with flowers.

          "...You got into a fight with a florist?" commented Toriko as Seiki walked past her, mumbling something about Shigure. Seiki glared at her cousin.

          "What's wrong with your eyes? I'm not wearing anything shiny..." said Toriko. Seiki just growled and continued walking until she got to her room and shut the door.

          "Hey, what are you doing in my room?" asked Toriko as she knocked on the door.

          "It's my room!!!" replied Seiki. "Leave me alone!"

          "Fine, sheesh..." grumbled Toriko as she backed away from the door. She bumped into Akira.

          "Sorry," apologized Toriko as she went to the kitchen.

          "...Wait," said Akira, who was debating what he should say next. Toriko stopped and turned.

          "Yes?"

          "Um...W-What's...wrong with Seiki?" asked Akira. Toriko raised an eyebrow.

          "Why are you so concerned about her? ...Don't tell me...You like her?" asked Toriko, smirking.

          "Why would I be attracted to someone like Seiki?" retorted Akira. Toriko's grin grew wider.

          "Heh, I see...Seiki doesn't know, does she? Well, I don't know why you're acting like this, but it's probably not going to last any longer," said Toriko. Akira looked surprised.

          "W-What are you talking about?" asked Akira as calmly as he could. Toriko gave a short laugh.

          "Cute. It's no wonder why she's still looking for you..." said Toriko as she made her move to the kitchen.

          "Who is 'she'?" asked Akira.

          "You don't remember? Huh..." said Toriko. She left Akira alone in the hallway.

          "Remember...Remember what!?" asked Akira as he held his head. He slid down against the wall.

          "...I don't understand..." he muttered. "Agh...why..."

Hehe...It's been a little over a week ^^;...Oh wellz, at least I'm updating sooner ^^. Heh...Looks like things are getting a little complicated...And Kouji got some spotlight!! XD Now why is he asking Seiki to go out with him? Hehehehehe~!!

School is starting soon but I'm gonna try to update once a month. Please bear with me...I don't want to struggle in my classes again this year ^^.
