Amber Jonson peeked through her violet colored curtains, and peered at the girl spinning around in the street. The girl looked to be about fourteen, and could be seen outside spinning around in circles whenever the rain started to pour. No one really knew why, but it brought them a weird comfort to see her out there.

"Charlie get in here." Amber turned around and shouted for her husband, who rapidly walked into the living room, and stopped to stand by his wife.

"The girl's dancing again isn't she?"

"Mm hm." Amber turned back around to look out the window, and watched the girl as thunder began to lick the black sky with a brilliant white. The girl's raven colored hair was flying around her, and her blue jeans and light blue t-shirt were soaked from the rain, but she didn't seem to care. The rain poured even harder, but the girl just kept on spinning.

Over across the street, a teenage boy sat in his wheelchair, and watched the girl spin about in the rain. It was cold out on the porch, but the highlight of his life was getting to watch that girl dance. His old royal-blue baby blanket covered with patterns of Carebears was covering his legs, and was wrapped tightly from his waist to his large feet. His mother was watching from the kitchen window on the side to make sure he didn't get wet, but she knew well enough to leave him alone. His dark blue eyes always seemed to light up watching the girl's feet land lightly in the mud puddles, and then spring out of them again, as though she had never even touched them.

The girl seemed to have a soft white glow around her, but no one was really sure why. They'd be watching her dance for years, but after the rain stopped she literally seemed to disappear. No one had ever thought to ask where she lived, why she danced...They just watched her.

She stopped in the middle of the road and raised her arms up in the air, palms facing the sky. Danny watched her twirl around and around in the pouring rain, and listened as the rain hit the sidewalk with a soft thump. His mother, Marie, shook her head slowly and sat down at the kitchen table. Danny's younger sister Melanie was asleep in her bedroom, and Marie sipped her coffee. Danny had been in the wheelchair for three years, too scared and too proud to try to walk if there was a possibility of failing. The doctors said he could walk if he'd only try, but Danny refused to try to get up.

Marie sighed and watched the way Danny's eyes lit up as he watched the girl dance. "God send me an angel..." The song "Send Me An Angel" by Amanda Perez played softly from the radio on the bookshelf. The clock ticked to midnight, and Marie watched her son shiver. It was only twenty degrees outside, if that, and yet Danny refused to come inside. Maried peaked her head out the door.

"Danny it's getting late and the girl will be going home soon, why don't you come inside and go to bed?"

"No." His eyes stayed fixed on the girl and his mother sighed. Pulling the door shut behind her, Marie silently walked down the hall to her bedroom and climbed into bed.

The moon could be seen peaking out from the middle of the rain clouds, and the raindrops seemed to fall like moonbeams. The rain slowed and began to fall in a light mist, and the girl took off walking towards the end of the street.

"Wait!" She turned back and walked to Danny's front porch as he yelled, and stopped when she was standing by the railing that ran around the wood porch. She smiled up at him, and Danny watched her brilliant green eyes light up.

"Will you come back here tomorrow? Even if it isn't raining?"

"Why?"

"Because I want to talk to you...Get to know the girl behind the dancing." He smiled at her and she smiled sweetly back.

"Sure, will you be home around one o'clock? I have a few things to do, but after that I'd be happy to come talk with you."

"Yeah I should be. Where do you live?"

"Just down the road." Danny pulled the blanket off of his legs and held it out to her.

"It looks like you need this a lot more than I do." She took it from his hands gently and wrapped it around her bare shoulders.

"Thanks, it's really cold out here." He nodded his head and she smiled at him again.

"Well I should be getting home...I'll see you tomorrow."

"Wait! What's your name?"

"Angel. Your's?"

"Danny."

"It's nice to meet you Danny. I need to get home though...I promise I'll see you tomorrow alright? I think your mother wants you inside, it's getting pretty cold." He nodded his head and turned his wheelchair around and opened the front door. Pushing it open, he used his arms to push the chair up the small ramp into the house.

"Bye Angel."

"Bye Danny."

Marie's head snapped up as she heard her son whisper "Bye Angel." and she shook her head.

"No it had to have been a dream..." She closed her eyes and buried her face in her pillow, eventually falling asleep.

Angel walked down the street with the blanket wrapped around her. In all the time she had lived in that city, it was the first time anyone had ever given her anything. She had been wearing the same clothes for years, and she smiled as she walked into an alley. A fire was lit in a metal barrel, and a middle-aged man looked up at Angel as he held his hands over the flames.

"Hey Angel! How was the rain tonight?"

"It was amazing Anthony. The moon shone straight through the clouds down onto the water, and it looked just like a fairytale." She moved over to stand beside Anthony, and he smiled at her.

"Where'd you get the blanket honey?"

"Oh...A boy saw me dancing...His name is Danny, and he gave it to me."

"Quite nice of him. Does he know where you live?"

"No...I don't think I'm going to tell him." She stared into the flames and Anthony hugged her. His heavy brown coat was falling apart at the seams, and his beard had a salt and pepper appearance, but it was actually a light grey in the sunlight. Anthony nodded his head sadly and looked at her face.

"You don't have to stand on the street corner tonight sweetheart, I found a box that I cleaned out...There's enough room for both of us." Angel smiled up at him and her eyes sparkled.

"You wouldn't mind?"

"Of course not. I've got some bread left from today too." He held it out to her and she smiled at him gratefully and ate it slowly, savoring every bite. She followed him as he turned the corner and pointed to the box in the corner of the alley. She climbed in, pulling the blanket over her, and Anthony climbed in after her.

What would Danny think if he knew he had given his blanket to a street rat?
