Lost Keys

My pulse is jumping and I can't breathe
Trembling as I claw and scratch against wood and metal
Twitch and shutter as the shadows begin to seethe
Watch as the burnt out ashes begin to settle

Shiver as I latch the door
The hollow sound of the locks reverberating off the walls
Lulled into a false sense of security as I slip to the floor
Convulse as the bottom slips out and falls

Slip beneath the surface and drown in the air
Feel the shadows lash out, spreading like ink so I can't see
I can sense them but I don't know where
Gasping for air as I wait for the creatures I've locked inside of me
