“Fool”

By Dark Pegasus

Author’s Note: Be aware that the lines are broken up oddly.

I hate to be the center

Of attention, a harsh winter

Comes early, one that no one expects

But it has not arrived yet.

With the slow passing of the seasons

You still don’t need a reason

To be everybody’s fool.

Frightened by what I see

Things aren’t always as they appear to be

They still don’t know how they are treating me

It is my fate to drown in this sea.

Alone I suffer in my sorrow

For a short while I’d like to borrow

Someone else’s place so they can be everybody’s fool.

I just want to know why nobody seems to care

The burden of this sadness is too much for anyone to bear.

I know no one would dare

To tell me that life’s fair.

In this world alone I cry

Not enough time will pass to let these tears dry

Do you know I’ve got everybody fooled?
