NB: This was not meant to offend any soldiers, veterans or active. This is
from my mind and has nothing to do with any real experience of mine.
Also: at the end the word "their" is used incorrectly. I am extremely
sorry if this bugs you. Somehow, "his or her" just does not seem poetic..
America's Golden Boy
By LikeAStone

His name headlines the papers
All the girls think he's so hot
I guess I'm glad he's on our side
But my idol he is not

My dear country, how
Can you be so blind?
Any boy can save another
It was just right place, right time

Any other American I'd worship
Any other soldier I'd love
But when I think of heroics
He is not what I think of

I knew he was my neighbor
I thought he was my friend
He always was aggressive
He'll be that way 'til the end

He spent six weeks in basic training
And it is still paying off
But I'm still paying for counseling
And still I need a lot

Everyone keeps a shot in their locker
Of him and his battery
Well, if our golden boy's perfect
Why did he rape me?
