Scene I
Setting: The front desk of the WTR (Web Tech Revolution) building. There is
a large brown desk in the middle of the room. On top of the desk are a
computer monitor and a keyboard. There is a cylinder container occupied
with writing utensils. A large plant is in the corner of the room. Two
people walk on the set. The first person is a man in his early forties or
late thirties dressed in a brown suit. He is a very successful man and owns
WTR. His name is Berton Slowe. Behind is a young woman in her early
twenties. She is dressed in a black suit. Her name is Maya Marie Smith.
BERTON: I hope you like it here.
MAYA: I'm sure I will.
BERTON: Did you like the tour of the building?
MAYA: Yes, I did Mr. Slowe.
BERTON: That's good. Well this is where you'll be working at. (Gestures
towards the desk.)
MAYA: It's nice.
BERTON: Well, you have 5 minutes until your work starts. Why don't you get
settled and I'll check on you in a few hours.
MAYA: Okay thank you.
BERTON: Bye now. (BERTON exits the stage.)
MAYA: (Walks to the desk and sits in chair.)
(A young man runs onto the stage and then exits on the opposite side not
even taking one glance at Maya. Just as the man leaves another man enters
the stage. He is the same age as the man who just left. His hair is long
and is tied up in a ponytail. His name is Ryo Tayrei.)
RYO: Excuse me miss, but did you just see a guy run past here?
MAYA: Yeah, I did.
RYO: Do you know what direction he ran in?
MAYA: He went that way (Points finger towards the exit.)
RYO: Thank you! Hey, are you new here? I've never seen you before.
MAYA: Yeah, I just started today.
RYO: (Smiles.) Good luck.
MAYA: Thanks.
(Ryo walks to the exit and waves goodbye as he walks out. Maya's cell phone
rings and she exits the stage as she answers it.).
(Blackout)
(End of Scene)
Scene II
Setting: The front desk of the WTR (Web Tech Revolution) building. One
month has passed. There are scattered papers on the desk. Maya enters the
stage carrying a stack of papers. She sits them down on desk and then sits
down. Ryo arrives a few minutes later also carrying a stack of papers. He
lays them on the desk next to Maya's stack and wipes his forehead.
MAYA: Thank you so much for helping.
RYO: You're welcome, but that's what friends are for.
MAYA: At least I have one then.
RYO: What do you mean?
MAYA: How could you not notice? Let me clue you in. Everyone hates me.
RYO: Don't be silly. Everyone doesn't hate you.
MAYA: But it's true. Face to face they're nice but when they think I'm out
of hearing range they say the most horrible things.
RYO: (With an angered look.) What do they say?
MAYA: Things like, "She only got here because of her looks." Or, "Her
parents are rich. There's no way she could've gotten here on her own. Her
parents must have bribed the boss." And, "She's so weird. She must be
hiding something."
RYO: They're just jealous.
MAYA: Of what?
RYO: You're beautiful, educated, nice.
MAYA: Ryo?
RYO: Yes?
MAYA: Thank you.
RYO: (Nervously.) I.I gotta go.
MAYA: Why? Please stay here. It gets lonely.
RYO: Sorry. I have to work too ya know.
MAYA: See ya later.
RYO: Bye.
(Ryo exits the stage. Maya begins to sort through the stacks of paper.
About a minute later a young man enters the stage. This is the same man who
ran though the room before. He approaches Maya with a slightly irritated
look on his face. His name is Ryu Tayrei.)
RYU: Excuse me but are you named Maya by chance?
MAYA: Yes, why?
RYU: So you're the one my brother keeps talking about!
MAYA: I beg your pardon?
RYU: UGH! It's so awful! All I hear from him is Maya this and Maya that.
MAYA: are you and who is your brother?
RYU: Oh yeah I forgot to tell you. My name is Ryu and I'm Ryo's twin
brother.
MAYA: (Squints eyes.) Now that you say it you do look a lot like him, but
just in the face.
RYU: Whatever, we're nothing alike in personality, because I would never
fall for a little girl like you.
MAYA: (Frowning.) Excuse me, little girl? (Gasps.) What do you mean by
fall?
RYU: (Rolls eyes.) Do I have to spell it out for you! My stupid brother is
in love with you. Aren't you aware of this?
MAYA: (Blushing.) No.
RYU: Ugh. Figures. (Sly look.) So do you love him back?
MAYA: ..
Berton Slowe enters the stage with Ryo following him.
BERTON: Ryu! What are you doing? Both you and you brother have been
slacking off!
RYU: I'm not the one slacking off! (Points finger at Ryo.) It's him. He's
the one always daydreaming about that girl.
RYO: (Blushing furiously.) Ryu, shut up!
BERTON: (To Ryo.) Is our new secretary a problem? Do I need to transfer you
to another building?
RYO: (Still blushing.) NO! Um.I .that's not necessary. I'm sorry
father. I'll make sure I work harder.
BERTON: Good. I need those VR Web goggles ready to show for the next big
meeting.
(Ryo nods his head solemnly.)
Now both of you back to your stations.
(Ryu and Ryo exit the stage.)
MAYA: Mr. Berton? (Her cell phone suddenly rings.) Excuse me I have to take
this. (Maya exits the stage to answer her cell phone.)
BERTON: (He is about to leave when his cell phone rings. He takes the cell
phone out of his pocket and answers it.) it's all taken care
they're almost done. I know all our dreams are riding on
course not! They are not aware of the I made sure they implanted
the I tested it the man had no will of his I know it was a
marvelous idea implanting the chips in the VR Web I'll make
sure I contact you if anything changes. . (Berton puts his cell
phone back in his pocket and exits the stage.)
(Maya enters the stage and sits at her desk. She holds up her cell phone
and dials a number.)
MAYA: .I just found out something that could end this
bigger than we thought. I'll continue this when I'm in a more secure
they have no idea I actually work for the CIA. I'll make sure of
that. . (Maya puts hers cell phone away and begins look at some
papers at her desk casually.)
(Blackout.)
(End of Scene.)
Scene III
Setting: The front desk of the WTR (Web Tech Revolution) building. Two days
later. The papers on the desk are organized. Maya is sitting at the desk
typing away at her computer. Ryo enters the stage with an angered look on
his face. His long hair is loose and it looks as if he didn't get much
sleep.
MAYA: (Smiles.) Hello Ryo.
RYO: (Dully.) Hello.
MAYA: I have a question. Is Mr. Slowe your father?
RYO: He's my stepfather. Why?
MAYA: (Shakes head.) No reason. Say, would you tell me more about VR Web
goggles.
RYO: (Looks hurt.) They're goggles that could replace computer monitors,
computer mice, and keyboards. Brain waves are used to move the cursor and
it's voice activated.
MAYA: (Looks concerned.) Is there something wrong?
RYO: (Turns away.) I know everything.
MAYA: (Looks scared.) What?
RYO: (Looks in her eyes with lividness.) You're not really a secretary. You
work for the CIA and trying to bring my stepfather's business down.
MAYA: (Biting her lip nervously.) How did you.
RYO: I saw the surveillance tapes and I heard everything.
MAYA: Then you should know what your father is trying to do.
RYO: (Darkly.) Yes.
MAYA: Then why are you like this? You acting as if I'm to blame!
RYO: Ever since my stepfather adopted my brother and I we've been living a
lie. He knew of our computer talents. I helped him make that evil machine!
And lied to me!
MAYA: (Sadly.) I.I.(Pauses.) Show me where the VR Web goggles are.
RYO: 't help.
MAYA: (Reaches out to him.) Please?
RYO: (Touches her fingers.) I can't. Even if my stepfather did do horrible
things, he's still my stepfather. I can't do that to him. I can't betray
him.
MAYA: (Pulls her hand away and stands up. She around the desk to face him.)
Then, you're an accomplice. And you'll go down with him.
RYO: (Looks at the ground.) Then so be it. (Looks up.) I still love you
though.
MAYA: (Tearfully.) I hate my job. Please don't make me do this. Please just
run away. Away from all of this and live happy somewhere.
RYO: I'm sorry.
MAYA: (In tears.) You have the right to remain silent. Everything you say
can be used against you in the court of law.
(Blackout.)
(End of Scene. Curtain falls.)
