So It Happened

Peregrine Nahima

So it happened

That when I turned around

You weren’t there

I told myself

‘I don’t care’

I turned back to the table to see

The blackjack dealer smiling at me

He said, ‘Tell me how could it be’

I didn’t stick around, to hear the rest

You weren’t there

But I tried my best

Not to care.

Don’t you even know

What we have is more than a show?

What will it take for you to believe

In me? (in me)

Sometimes I just wanna run

And just have it all done

’Cause this ain’t getting me anywhere

Near where I wanna be

So it happened

When I was walking down the street

I heard someone say your name

I turned around to look

And saw the slut who lived at the Brook

She said that you were great last night

I wanted to kill her just out of spite

Too bad it’s not my place

’Cause apparently you don’t care

About us; about me

About everything we could be

Don’t you even know

What we have is more than a show?

What will it take for you to believe

In me? (in me)

Sometimes I just wanna run

And just have it all done

’Cause this ain’t getting me anywhere

Near where I wanna be

So it happened (so it happened)

I was standing in the rain

Letting it wash the pain

Away (away)

Someone walked up to me

But I knew it wasn’t you

So I didn’t look them in the face

I guess they didn’t know what to do

Then I heard your voice behind me

Saying I was yours

And when I looked you in the eye

We both knew it was a lie

Don’t you even know

What we have is more than a show?

What will it take for you to believe

In me? (in me)

Sometimes I just wanna run

And just have it all done

’Cause this ain’t getting me anywhere

Near where I wanna be

So it happened that I walked away

No more to say between us

Maybe it was yesterday

But I think that it was longer

And now I’m standing here

Drinking your favourite brand of beer

Wondering if you understood

My heart and soul was yours

’Till you chose to turn away

Didn’t you even know

What we had was more than a show?

What would it have taken

For you to believe in me?

In the end, I ran

Just to have it all done

’Cause it wasn’t getting me anywhere

Near where I wanted to be
