Soul Eclipse

Chapter One: Chosen

It has been raining for the past few days, Hectika. I don’t like the rain. The thunder spooks me. Hectika, the skies that are filled with gray clouds seem to----

"Trey! Stop writing that letter to your imaginary bud a come help me set the table! Trey!!" A voice yelled from inside a house.

            "Fine, Reina, I WILL!"

It was a girl. One of at least fourteen years of age. She had black hair and deep blue eyes. She was outside in a tree house, one she built on her own at the age of eight. She was always good with planning and strategy, opposite of her sister, whom taught her how to fight in the marital arts and anything that has to do with hand-to-hand combat, but Trey was still a mean fighter. Trey and Reina lived on their own, but that was okay, life was fine amongst them. Reina was excellent in the culinary arts, just as she is in the marital arts, and with Reina’s karate earnings, they live a good life. The only problem between the sisters was Hectika.

Hectika was supposedly a person living inside of Trey’s head. Reina doesn’t believe that she has someone in there; she actually thinks her sister is going through a teenage phase. But that doesn’t explain much on how or why Trey would write in righty, and then switch to lefty and write a response to her own diary entries, and the writings are very different. You make the call...is Hectika real?

Trey climbed down the side of the tree house and ran across the small house’s lawn and into the back door, which lead into the kitchen, then dining room and family room. Trey was soaking wet--Reina was angry that her little sister was tracking mud all over the floor.

"Trey! Get dry! Don’t move! Get a towel!"

            "Um...Reina?"

            "Yeah?"

"How can I A) Get dry, B) not move, and C) Get a towel AT THE SAME TIME?!"

"Oh...right...," She handed Trey a towel, "You knew what I meant,"

"Yes, I was 100% sure," Trey said with a hint of sarcasm, and they both laughed.

Trey helped set the table, and Reina served the delicious meal. It was a perfect little family dinner.

***

After eating and clearing the table, Reina went upstairs to take a small nap and left Trey to do the dishes. Trey listened to her music on the radio, but was deep in thought at the same time. She wondered what it would be like to be rich...or have a parent who cared enough to live with them. But dreams and hopes never really got anyone anywhere, and if anyone says otherwise, they’re wrong. A tiny voice inside Trey’s head said, and she knew it was right.

The doorbell rang, breaking her concentration.

“Coming!” Trey said as she dried her hands, turned off the music, and ran to the front door, opening it.

“Does a miss Trey Leeim live here? Trey Leeim or Reina Leeim?” The mailman asked.

“Yes, I’m Trey, and my sister is Reina, got mail for us?”

“Yes, a letter for you, Trey,”

            “Oh...can I have it?”

He handed it to her, “Here y’go...and its urgent business, so I’d read it right away if I were you,”

“Thanks...for...the advice,” She blinked and closed the door in his face.

Trey ran over to the table and stared at the letter. It was beige and lined with gold, and under her name, there was a picture of her. The person who sent them this letter must have been one heck of a rich guy, because now, sending snail mail is much more expensive than sending electronic mail. The more Trey looked at the letter, the more she wanted to open it. But she was afraid of what might have been in it. What could it be? Open it...Open it... said a voice in her head, and she nodded in agreement. She opened the letter carefully and pulled out the crisp, new piece of paper and stared at the blank side. She exhaled out of her mouth and started to slowly unfold the paper.

She looked at the neat, black typing on the bright, white paper, and she began to read:

“To Trey Leeim:

I have heard about your sovereign skills at the martial arts, and I have decided to take them into consideration. I am inviting you to an all-expense paid trip to The Soul Eclipse, the space craft, where we will be engaging in a battle to the death—a kind of martial arts tournament, if you would like to call it that. Rules and Regulations will be given to you once you reach the address given on the envelope. For now, the main goal and/or rule is: get there on time. Enclosed in this letter is also a handwritten invitation by me, your host, Edward McMillian. I hope to see you soon, if you take this once in a lifetime opportunity.

                                                            Sincerely,

                                                            Edward McMillian.”

Trey was actually excited for being recognized for her martial arts talents. She was a bit shaky about asking her sister’s permission to go, but she stood and walked up the stairs to Reina’s room. The black-haired, green-eyed figure was propped against her pillow, bottom up in the air. Reina found this form of sleeping very “comfortable”; Trey found it to be a royal pain in the royal….donkey.

“Reina!! Wake up!! ‘Have something to ask of you,” Trey started to shake Reina, who snored loudly.

“W-whaaaaaat?” Reina sat up straight and rubbed her eyes.

“Can I go to the Soul Eclipse to go battle to the death by a martial arts tournament being held by Edward McMillian?? PLEEEEEEEEEEASE!!” She asked quickly.

Reina sat in silence and drank the stuff in at her own pace. Then she opened her eyes widely, “Martial Arts tournament?! No way, Trey!” She hugged her sister, “I’m not losing you too!”

Months earlier, Reina’s fiancée entered a deadly martial arts tournament to win enough money to pay off the wedding supplies, but he ended up in a coma in the final match, and still hasn’t waken up from his deep sleep. Reina was still a little rickety about this, and Trey KNEW her sister wasn’t going to let her go. At all.

            “But Reina!” Trey disputed.

“No buts, Trey, you aren’t going, and that’s final,” Reina ended the conversation.

Trey huffed and stormed out of the room, “Fine!!” Trey ran downstairs, putting the envelope in her notebook and her pen, she ran outside and into her tree house. She sat down in the dark and looked out the window as the rain fell down; she was furious. She opened the notebook and began to write a whole new sort of letter.

‘Dear Hectika… I want to go to that Martial Arts Tournament! Reina wont let me…’

She switched hands almost instantly, ‘Then go, Trey, you don’t have to listen to your stuck up sister all the time…go to the Soul Eclipse!’

            ‘I don’t know…’

‘Now, listen, when have I ever been wrong?’

‘Well there was that time you said poison was candy…’

            ‘Never mind that…are you going?’

Trey thought for a moment before answering, ‘Pack your bags Hectika, we’re going.’

A/N: If this chapter is short, Gomen. There’ll be a longer chapter two, I promise! And I know you’ve waited so long for this fic, lol. So chapter two will be better! You have my word!

Next Chapter: Rules, Regulations, and you.
