Something Not Found

An intoned eulogy heralds another soul
claimed by death -
yet it falls lifeless as it slips from the lips against the
incandescent air rippling in the heat.
Perhaps to defy the meaning of it all, or maybe

because she never died. How could she, when
she never lived either. Those meaningless days sidling past
during the span of her existence deprived her of -
she could not piece the last brittle fragment without
shattering the puzzle.

So she started searching, a treasureless hunt that wound
towards a somewhat monotonous eternity; each fruitless try
devours the unspent days with relish.
It's possible she led her sequestered existence
behind a warped reflection on the intangible excuse of glass
in some clandestine world of hers.
Perhaps she sought for the key she once disposed of
to unlock her jailed essence.

The eulogy halts, and their eyes as if opened
in some new dimension, glimpse a
wraith of disillusionment. And for a fleeting second,
bewildered by the disconcerting phantasmagoria of the
vision of death infused with life.
They proceed with their vapid ceremony, though a
wisp of unconvincing rumour shivers through the crowd
her peaceful façade undisrupted.

To all those celebrating, Happy Chinese New Year!!
