Master of Masters
By Global Nomad
Chapter 4
(Calideala’s POV)
Once in my rooms I lay down on the bed to think. First I must meet with the Clan’s Sand Master and together perhaps we can find a plan because I needed someone to back me up in case something went wrong. I got up and poked my head out the doorway and called over a small boy and asked him to fetch me the local Sand Master. He went scurrying down the hallway and disappeared around a corner. I went back to and lay on my bed. I needed a distraction before I could do anything. My mind didn’t work if it was over crowded with ideas and such. I needed some thing to help me relax so I would be fresh for the next evening.
It wasn’t long until someone informed me of their presence at the entrance. I pulled myself back out of bed to push aside the cloth that covered the doorway to find the clan leader alongside a very handsome young man. The young man stood in a humble stance with his head lowered causing a tumble of thick black curls to fall forward and cover parts of his face. He looked exactly like the type of distraction I needed.
“Master you requested a Sand Master?”
“Yes I did.”
“Well currently we don’t have a Sand Master. Our local Sand Master went with the group of riders and was struck dead from behind. This is his son Calim. He is not yet a full Master but perhaps he can be of service to you.”
I looked him over again. He was taller than I by about two hand spans and his shoulders were broad and his chest muscular. Yes, perhaps, he could be of service to me.
“Yes I suppose he could help me, thank you.”
“No Master, thank you for being our aide in these times. I will leave you two then.” The leader then bowed himself out of the room. Calim came in then resumed his stance but I had no intention for him to stay that way.
“Please make yourself at ease around me.” He raised his head and unclasped his hands from behind his back. He wore the sand colored robes of an ‘in training’ and his skin was indeed a much lighter shade than those who lived under the sun. His hair fell away from his face to reveal a beautiful face with deep gray eyes. Yes, I thought, he will help me relax my mind.
“Tell me what you have learned so far in your studies Calim.” I sat on the bed I front of him and looked around boredly as I listened to what the extents of his knowledge were. By the end he was quite relaxed around me and would sometime forget to put in a ‘Master’ or two but I let it slip enjoying the sound of his voice as he listed his latest studies. I soon tired of this and held up my hand for silence.
“How old are you Calim?”
“I am twenty rains Master”
“Do you wish to be a Sand Master?”
“Yes, Master. It has been my dream ever since I was young.”
“Well then has anyone taught you the Belnaen ritual?” I smiled and he blushed. The Balnaen ritual was a mating ritual for Sand Masters. It keeps our race alive since we usually do not marry and have families.
