Atonement

I've waited many

Years now

Trouble followed on

Behind, sensing

Ever often

That one of you

May soon decline

I saw as my

Wife died, your

Hands that

Burned her skin

Peeled her nails off

One by one, to

Find out where

 I'd been

My child captured

That day, because

Of what she knew

But you could

Not imagine

 What I knew that

She could do

One look, so

You're aflame

Another burst your eyes

I'll see you deaf

And blinded

Your heart explode

Within your chest

It's you

I so despise

I taught her not

To do this

Keep that thought

Controlled, so she hid

Inside the cupboard

And her Mother

Never told

My powers, all

But gone now

I still sense

 You near

My girl is just

Maturing, she's stayed

Free & clear

Yet when I'm gone

I'll set her lose

To see her

Metaphoric noose

In tortured ways

I'll see you dead

When I'm with

My Wife again

My heart now trembles

Slowing, pain rakes

Through my chest

I call to her to finish them

Make them pay

For what they've

Done

She speaks in

Calm words

Down the phone

Father you now

Must Atone

My brain in searing pain

As they smash open my door

I know now it is over

So I kneel down on

The floor

Finally their gunfire rains

It sounds to me

Like rushing trains

Screaming tears

Echo from the receiver

The line goes dead.
