A/N: Hello readers, I have quite a few stories that I should work on huh? But I couldn't resist the challenge so this is a bran new story! Hope you all would enjoy!

Lost Chance

Chapter One: Getting Started

Toast popping, coffee brewing, brother running, mother shouting, and father sipping his wake up tea. Everyone's of to a hectic day, all but.

'Middle school.my first day.'

"Mindy dear, wake up, you're going to be late, and you don't want to be late on your first day of school." Melinda's mother called, blocking out her thoughts.

5 minutes later

Mindy's mom was really shaking her now.

"Err.emm." Mindy groaned. "Alright, you win! Please mom, don't shake me like that. It's worse then being sea sick!" (A/N: been sea sick before.)

Without caring what Mindy said, "hurry up! You don't wan you teacher's first impression on you is that you have no time concern what so ever, which you don't."

Mrs. Harrison started to pull out clothes from the closet, throwing them toward Melinda's face.

"MOM!" Mindy shouted. "I'm in 6th grade, I can pick my own outfit." (A/N: My mom seem to care about that all the time.)

"Not including a word, Mrs. Harrison walked out of Melinda's room, looking a little hurt, and began to head down stairs.

At the sound of the door bell, Mindy started to head downstairs, wearing a lime green blouse and a white skirt, she look more like an angel then a person going to her first 6th grade class.

It was Melinda's best friend, Cindy, at the door.

Cindy was quite a lovely girl. She had beautiful silky blood hair that came down to her waist, with a pair of sky blue eyes. She was the most beautiful girl at Highs Elementary.

Standing next to Cindy, Melinda felt hideous with her red hair that came below her shoulder, curled slightly at the end. She had light chestnut brown eyes that would be adored by most people.

"Ready?" Cindy asked excited to go.

"Err. just a second." Mindy ran to the kitchen leaving Cindy there on the front porch.

One hand grabbing a waffle, the other holding a blue backpack, Mindy ran out her front door, almost knocking Cindy on her face.

"Bye Mom! See you after school!" Melinda shouted behind her.

All the way to school, Melinda had to listen to Cindy talk about her vacation in Hawaii.

"It was so fun there. It didn't even rain, the whole time we were there. Talk about luck!" Cindy continued. "Did I mention the water was the best for swimming?"

"Yes for the 1000th time."

"Oh my! I can't believe I forgot."

"What!" Melinda asked suddenly interested.

"I met the cutest boy ever. His name was Riley Field."

"Cindy, you fall in love with every guy. It's probably just short WRONG feeling.."

"I'm serious. He is different then the others. His jade green eyes, glittering under the Hawaiian sun, just barely a tan on his body. He is just gorgeous.

"Cindy, do you really think that a strange guy would be your one and only? Your ultimate love?" Mindy said sarcastically.

"Oh never mind, you wouldn't understand. You tease at every boy that talks to you." Cindy said walking faster.

"How do you know I wouldn't understand? Melinda jumped in front of Cindy, stopping her.

"First you don't like anyone and has never been liked. Second you think love is for dorks, and third you never had experience."

"I still think my decisions are right. We are only in 6th grade. I'll worry about it in high school maybe."

In no time, they arrived at Royal Middle School.

It was a tall brown building with 3 floors. The banner on top of the entrance door said, "Welcome back 7th and 8th."

Standing with all the 8th graders made Melinda and Cindy feel short.

Everyone around seemed really kind,

But

Who would knew.

Just down the 6th grade hall, while Mindy and Cindy was on their way to first period, art, they slipped on a puddle of water and slid down the hall, bumped straight into .

THE PRICIPAL.

After 10 minutes being covered by Mrs. Tuner, the Principal's spit, Mindy and Cindy finally escaped and found some fresh air to breath.

All day Cindy and Melinda were walking like old ladies, slowly and carefully.

When Mindy got home, a rich smell of chocolate. Mrs. Harrison was in the kitchen making her famous double chocolate fudge brownies.

That sweet sugar smell made Mindy droll.

"Hey mom, can I have one?" I asked eagerly to grab some.

"Here you go." Mrs. Harrison spoke looking at her daughter.

"Thanks, I need to do my homework now." Mindy said while trying to stuff as many brownies as she can in her hands.

Two hours later.

Mindy heard the front door slam followed by her dad's deep tired voice.

"Chloe dear, I'm home." Mr. Harrison called.

"I'm in here Ben honey." Mrs. Harrison called out from the dinning room.

"Something smells amazing." Mr. Harrison commented.

"Well thank you. It's steak and hamburger." Mrs. Harrison walked our of the room and brushed Mr. Harrison with a kiss then went right back to her cooking.

Mindy came out of her room and skipped down stairs.

At the dinner table Mindy's 15-year-old brother, Dylan was pouring a whole bottle of ketchup on his hamburger, Mrs. Harrison ate gracefully on her salad, trying not to make any sound, and Mr. Harrison was cutting his steak in to a million pieces.

Mindy watched her parents as they laughed and joked and once in a while their lips met. Mindy suddenly remembered her conversation with Cindy about love and crushes.

"What is love?" Mindy said stopping everyone at his or her business. Dylan walked away from the table and ran up stairs, wanting no part of the conversation.

Mr. and Mrs. Harrison were silent for a moment,

Then Mrs. Harrison broke off, "Err. Mindy dear, why the sudden question?"

"I just remembered about Cindy telling me this boy she met at Hawaii and I just thought to ask you about how do people fall in love? What's the difference between love and crush?"

"Well there's a significant difference between love and crush. Love is when two people care about each other so much that they would be committed to each other, but crush is where you have a sudden good feeling about someone, but it's not real love." Mrs. Harrison filled in Mindy's mind.

"So.. Do you love dad, mom?" Mindy asked.

Mrs. Harrison blushed a little pink, "of course dear."

While Mrs. Harrison putted away the dishes, Mindy went safely back to her room, embarrassed a little.

She threw her self on the bed and wondered if one day she might fall in love.

She wondered what it would feel like to be loved by some one.

Slowly, she began to fall asleep.

A/N: I know it's not such a start and it doesn't really give you where the story is going, but it's coming up soon (I hope). I wonder how my friend is doing with the challenge and may we all wish her good luck. Well please REVIEW for what I have so far!
