A/N: This story is getting a little difficult to write. So this would be the last chapter for a while. Sorry you guys. But if you have any good ideas as to how I can continue this, please tell me and I will take it in to consideration. Thanks you! And now on with the story.

Lost Chance

Chapter 5 – Changes and Sacrifices

Gazing at the clock that hung high in the center of the classroom wall, Mindy felt like time was going in snail speed. The short handle pointed at half way between 2 and 3, while the long handle covered right on 7. ‘Come on, move a little faster!’ Mindy called out in her thoughts.

It’s been exactly six month since Mindy and Ryan’s first date at the park. Tonight was going to be a romantic night, where they celebrate there six month anniversary.

Mindy have been preparing for weeks to find the perfect dress, the perfect shoe, ‘the hair’, the exact make-up. Even Cindy, being Mindy’s best friend, was getting tired and somewhat left out.

Mindy, where have you been today?” Cindy asked sounding drustrated yet worried at the same time.

Ryan and I went out to see a movie. Why are you sounding so harsh?” Mindy glared at Cindy for a while.

Well, if you still remember from your ‘busy’ schedule with Ryan, you and I were supposed to see ‘Never Meet Again’ today.”

Mindy paused, not knowing what excuse to use this time. Finally giving up she just apologized. “Sorry.”

Cindy sighed. “It’s alright. So how was the movie?”

Good, although Ryan did almost choke on his popcorn.”

Cindy let out a small giggle. “Do tell.”

And, Ryan is going to take me to this really sophisticated restaurant for our 6 month anniversary…” And so she went on.

A sudden loud ring from the bell brought Mindy back to the present from her thoughts. She picked up her books from her desk and rushed out of the classroom without putting them into her backpack.

Dashing through the hectic hallways, Mindy saw the familiar chestnut brown eyes and dark smooth brown hair you can melt in.

“Ryan!” Mindy called out hoping she would get his attention.

He looked up spotting Mindy, standing in the middle of the hallway. His face lit up at the sight of her crystal green eyes and beautiful red hair floating in her back. She gave him a special smile that she gave to no one else. Pushing toward Ryan, she jumped up to give him a tight hug.

He held her in his arms and gave her a peck on the cheek. “So? Are you excited about tonight?” Mindy slowly slipped her hands away from Ryan’s shoulder.

“Most defiantly,” Ryan said not sounding too ecstatic.

“What were you reading?”

“The football reason is starting and I think I might tryout for the quarterback position.”

“That’s great news.”

“I know, but the try out is at 6 o’clock.”

“So?” Mindy asked not sure what was the point that Ryan was concerned about.

“The tryout is at 6 o’clock, tonight.”

Oh, yea that basically just dropped the bomb.’ Mindy thought. “What? But… what about our… dinner? Mindy was astonished and disappointed.

“I don’t have to go for the tryouts, I mean, there’s always next year.” Ryan tried to sound cheerful and careless.

“No, we can have dinner another night. I want you to go out for the tryout.” Mindy gave him a weak smile. “Besides, we can’t continue to have our old quarterback. He can hardly run!”

Ryan giggled then asked, “are you sure?”

Mindy was too depressed to speak. She just nodded.

Ryan gave Mindy a peck on the cheek and headed toward the front office. Mindy stared at Ryan’s shadow disappeared into the crowd. She gave out a heavy sigh and then ran downstairs to catch her bus.

“You look a little pale today, are you okay?” Christina plopped down next to Mindy on the bus.

“Thanks for asking, but I’ll be fine.” Mindy said not sure if she will.

“Do you want to discuss what is bothering you?”

“Well, you know Ryan and I have been going out for 6 month now right?” Christina nodded, who didn’t know. Mindy continued. “ So we were going to have a special dinner tonight, but he had to cancel because he had football tryouts today.” Mindy groaned and pouted.

“Oh, I’m sorry.” Christina patted Mindy’s shoulder.

“Thanks. I think maybe I’ll go watch the tryouts and get a few small talks with Ryan,” Mindy grinned as she stood up and walked off the bus, turning back, giving Christina a small wave and then headed toward home.

A/N: The ending was a bit rushed, but I had to finish this chapter. This will be the last post for a while, at least until I get good ideas. Please REVIEW & REIVEW! Maybe if I feel loved I will get another chapter done. grins
