For my three childhood best friends: Trista Ko, Lynn Ching, and Joyce Lin.
PROLOGUE
Devils released from hell
Devindil laughs from his throne
Demons roamed the Everglades
Between elves and demons
Endless battle
Endless grudge
The night of massacre
Kingdom of elves nearly fell
Our beloved king never returned
Fair prince please do return
To us who fear there is no tomorrow
How much longer can our spirits last
Against demons' deadly strikes
How many more days can our fortresses hold
Fighting this meaningless war
Praying for the end to come
Relentless demons
Sorrowful elves
The legend of demons and elves
CHRIS’S POV
We kept on riding through the forest while trying to escape from the demons.
"We're almost there. Hang on!" General Burningbush yelled from behind. He had stayed at the rear to watch for the demon troops.
"Hurry up Windy! They are closing up on us!" I told my unicorn to speed up because I saw shadows jumping out of the bushes behind us.
"We'll hold them back, your highness. Please go on without me!" General Burningbush told us before he and our body guards charged at the demons.
"Thank you Roger! This way Chris!" Mother said before leading me into a dark tunnel. We kept going until we got to the end of the tunnel. What appeared on the other side was the human’s world.
My name is Chris Elkwoods. I came from another world—a world where no human exist, only two races, demons and elves. It is an angry place where two races fight each other over dominance. I am prince of the elves. Frank Elkwoods is my father. My mother, Elizabeth Elkwoods, is a sorceress, and one of the greatest of our race. The world of demons and elves is governed by two people, King Frank and King Devindil. While my father is currently the king of my race and ruler of the Forest of Elites, Devindil rules the Kingdom of Demons in the Everglades.
About four hundred years ago, Devindil wanted to take over both our world and the human world. There wasn’t any one who could stop him. No one had enough power to even match up to him. The only person close to having that much power was my father. Father wished to protect the humans because elves and humans have been friends since the beginning of time. Eight years ago, Devindil launched a surprise attack on our capital, Elkwood. We were defeated because our soldiers were not prepared. My father stayed behind to fight Devindil. He went and never returned. Since everyone escaped the city of Elkwoods except my father, nobody knew what happned to him. He might have died that night, or he might have been captured by the demons. We have found no tidings that he is alive. Hope is slim. As of right now, my people look to me as the only person capable of restoring our home to how it was before. Devindil tried to murder all members of elf royalties. Mother and I were one of the few survivors. We escaped to the human world, where we were temporarily safe. I have been spending time living among humans, going to high school with human kids. For eight years, I disguised myself as an ordinary sixteen-year-old boy name Calvin Woods. In the mean time, all other elves were protected by our army, under the leadership of General Burningbush. Eight years ago, there were no demons and few elves who knew the tunnel that leads to the human world, but Devindil has ordered his followers to search for it. Pretty soon, they will find the way to the human world. This can not be avoided. A catastrophe now awaits for the humans.
