Friend

We’ve been friends for how long now?

Longer than some friendships really last.

They say in life love will come and go,

But friends will truly stay.

I want to believe this about you and I,

That nothing could break our bond.

But now it seems that time’s run out,

And separate ways we’ll go.

Maybe it’s the miles that did this,

The two towns we live in different,

You’re from there and I’m from here,

Our homes very much apart.

I know we talk; you’re the only one who’ll listen,

I like to think the same about me at times,

And our time together, we take advantage,

Empty when we’re gone.

How hard can it be to just pick up the phone?

To say hello to a faithful friend from faraway?

Too hard to tell in such simple words,

About sin I have practised.

A crime carried out with such repercussions,

A friendship left to ruin by two minds alike.

I can see now why I feel such empty pain,

About a friendship lost.

So don’t forget me when our bond is gone,

Remember me just the same, as I will you,

And think not too much of what we’ve lost,

But what we could have gained.

I will see you again my friend but surely not now,

It may be a while before you hear from me again,

It maybe a while before I hear from you again,

But don’t think I have forgotten you,

Because our memory lasts.

Inside my mind,

My friend,

How are you?
