The cheerleader
Blanca had been sitting at her desk opening cards since the class
began, she was looking for the big one the one from the hottest guy, the
one with the lace fringe and the gold letters spelling out her name, but
she still hadn't found it.
Each card that passed into her hands and out the other she read them
quickly scoffed and looked the other way, So far she had not found the card
she was looking for.
She turned away and pretended to be talking to her friends when she
heard someone walk by behind her, she turned around and there was a
homemade card, it was just a piece of construction paper cut into a heart,
she didn't even look at it she wrinkled her nose and quickly tossed it to
the desk behind her, into the hands of Jamie.
Jamie had been sitting behind the cheerleaders desk for sometime, no one
had passed her a card she looked at this one she did not judge because she
was also not able to buy her cards, since her dad died last fall she had no
money for any extras she felt so alone because she was quiet no one looked
at her the same they looked at her like an outcast, because she was distant
it seemed she was never meant to have friends.
She opened to card to find her this written inside,
DEAR WHO IT MAY CONCERN, I GAVE THIS TO BLANCA BUT IM SURE THAT'S NOT WHOS
HANDS IT IS NOW, I WROTE THIS CARD TO SHOW THAT NO MATTER WHAT YOU LOOK
LIKE YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE PEOPLE JUST BY THEIR APPERENCE I WAS SURE
BLANCA WOULD CANCLE OUT THIS CARD SO WHOEVER THIS IS, TODAY, MY HEART IS
YOURS.
It was signed by Jake the high school quarterback and also one of the
cutest guys in school next to his name was a set of phone numbers and under
that his thumbprint with the words "my heart is yours today" written under
it. Jamie almost screamed with excitement. She heard Blanca laugh in the
front seat and say "wow she's even glad a loser got her a card".
That next day Jamie called Jake and they stayed together for a long
time, Jake didn't care what clothes Jamie wore or if she could afford to go
to a movie Saturday, he was just as happy sitting on their couch watching
TV, and for once, Jamie didn't feel so lonely, and it was all because
Blanca judged a something before she got to see the inside of it.
