Ermelinda Eve Inaya Perkins has always known she possessed the Power. She couldn’t wait until her thirteenth birthday when she could go to the magic school for developing her powers. She hoped to get into the English branch because they were the most advanced in sorcery, but she doubted they would teach a simple girl from Oklahoma, whom had grown up in the mortal
Sorcerers and sorceresses weren’t actually immortal, they just called themselves that because they were less likely to die with magical defenses. If a mortal entered the magic realm, they would turn to stone. br
"Linda! Wake up! We have a present and food for you!" Linda's aunt Seferina said through her bedroom
The girl was almost six feet tall and had short curly strawberry blond hair. Her eyes were large and green and seemed to look into one's soul. Her lips were rosy, as were her cheeks. She had a round face and was quite chubby, and she had acne scars and a bad complexion, but it didn't seem to bother her much. When she showed her smile, she could light up the
Ermelinda got out of bed groggily to take her shower. She slowly put on her loose jeans and t-shirt when she was done and went downstairs to see her parents and aunt sitting at the kitchen table with fried chicken, rice, gravy, and cake. br
Her mouth watered as she sat down and fixed a plate. When she was done stuffing her face with delicious food, she said with a slight southern accent, "Good mornin'! We need to go get me enrolled in a branch of the magic school so I can learn my powers. I can't wait! You said you had a gift for me?"br
She talked fast and didn't beat around the bush. They all just smiled and her dad said, "We already enrolled you, assuming you'll choose to practice sorcery instead of staying mortal. I pulled a few strings and got you into the English branch-"br
Linda squealed with delight, interrupting her father. She did that often so he didn't notice much and continued, "-We think it's time you got the family spellbook. It's been passed down from one generation to the next since the beginning of our family line. We also got your school supplies"br
He got up and went upstairs to the attic. He took out a key from a mirror (yes, he reached his hand in the mirror) and unlocked an old chest. The book was very old and tattered, yet on the inside it was in fairly good shape. It was full of spells, incantations, potion ingredients, descriptions of magical creatures, and anything else you could think
The man also pulled out robes, magical supplies, and a notebook and pencil (for taking notes in class). He carried the gifts downstairs to give to his daughter. br
Her mom Irene said with a smile, "You need to get ready for school. It just so happens that they're letting students pick up their schedules and look around today. We can't go with you because they only allow students and faculty in unless it's an open house or an emergency. You can take as long as they will let you because when you go to a magic school, time in the mortal realm goes twice as slow as at the school. If you stay for an hour there, you will only be gone thirty minutes here."br
Linda had never been in the magic realm before, but she knew of the secret door any immortal (or future immortal) could open. She was so excited. She ran to the top of the stairs. Ermelinda put her hand to the wall and concentrated. A medieval style door appeared and she opened
The hall before her seemed to never end. There must have been hundreds of doors on each side. The hall was bustling with people. A few were levitated three feet off the ground, and others were making light or fire balls bounce off the walls. She knew immediately that only the beginners and teachers were there that
Linda asked a short friendly looking woman with gray hair, "Excuse me. Can you tell me where I pick up my schedule?"br
The woman just smiled, and suddenly there was a piece of paper in her hand with a timetable on it. She had Magical History I, Intro to Spellcasting, Intro to Writing and Making Potions, Intro to Writing Spells, and Intro Power Discovery and Development. It said that to find a class, just start walking and your instincts will lead you to it so she didn't bother looking for them and meeting teachers. She decided to go home but when she turned around, the door was gone and the never ending hall filled with students was all that was there. br
Frantic, she looked for the nice lady, but she was nowhere to be seen so she asked a stern looking man in his forties for help. She said, "Sir, can you help me? I got here through a magical door I summoned, and I can't find it so I don't know how to get back home."br
He looked annoyed, but replied anyway, "You must use your insticts to find the door. Just find it, open it, and walk through, and you should be home."br
Before she could say a word, he was gone. She just started walking down the hall and kept on for about an hour. No one seemed to notice her, and she didn't care because she would meet many of them the next day when school started. Suddenly, she looked to her right at a door. She knew it must be the one she was looking for, but she wondered why no one was heading toward it other than her. She finally figured that everyone has a different door to home and opened it. br
Linda said, "Mom! Dad! Seferina! I'm home! I got my schedule! Look!"br
Silence. She walked downstairs, "Mom? Dad? Seferina? Are you home?"br
Ermelinda walked into the kitchen and hoped her eyes were deceiving her. She screamed and ran out of the house in terrible

Oh! Cliffhanger! Sorry, I couldn't help it. This was such a perfect place for one! I already have most of the story planned, but suggestions are always welcome. And in the future, ithis/i means it is italicized, thoughts, etc. I began this story with Linda's diary entry, and I will end with the end of it. Sorry the chapter's so short. I'm just terrible at not writing things lengthy enough! Please review! ^_^
