A.N. this poem is written for one of my dearest friends…you know who you are.
Dear Friend
Dear friend,
Where did I go wrong?
You don’t know how to smile anymore,
Your morose laughter makes me cry.
I know you’re not the way I used to be.
Have I spoiled your charm?
Am I the one to blame?
Because I can’t make you smile again.
Dear friend,
I care so much,
More than you will ever fathom.
Did I wreck your bliss?
I am so scared you’ll run to kiss your death,
And leave me blaming me.
Dear friend,
I want to pull you out,
I want you to feel some joy.
Because I see you sinking,
And all you are thinking is
How I betrayed you by trying to help.
When I try so hard to help you see your worth,
And you stand idly blind, I die a little more.
A thousand tears I’ve cried about you,
In the silence of my room,
And I can’t hear a comforting whisper.
Will you be alright?
Promise me you’ll hold on tighter than you have.
Dear friend,
What have I done?
I have fed your need for pain.
When you hurt yourself,
I want to make you stop and look,
Because it’s me you’re hurting, too.
My thoughts dwell on your sweet self,
The one I’m not sure that I know,
The friend who I am stumbling under.
Dear friend
Hang on by your nails,
Please try to see the good in yourself.
You’re so beautiful,
You know my soul unlike any other,
Because I’ve felt the pain you have.
Dear friend,
I’m scared I’m losing you,
Falling deeper into sadness.
Can I pull you out?
Or have you already drowned?
It’s not too late to live again.
Dear friend,
I will be here for you,
I will wind you in my broken arms,
I will share your tears,
I will try to help you confront your fears,
And maybe again we’ll be the way we were.
Dear friend.

Dear friend, I mean this poem from the bottom of my heart. I was sobbing as I wrote this, because it came to me like a fountain of inspiration. Please don’t think it’s a lie, because this is the truest poem I have ever written…
