on the carpet of crimson flowers

i blinked back
the tears on my eyes
as i lift my head
to stare at the watercolored sky
of blue and purple hues
as the sun slowly sets in the distance

you let go
of my hands
as you sadly smile
the cherry blossoms falling around us
like cottoncandy
dancing in the wind

i held your gaze
and i understood
as i step back and watched you walk away
the fallen flowers covering your path
erasing every memory
that once you have been in my life
