Eyes blink and close, long lashes stir
You slip into the world where faeries were
Of knights and dragons and magic tales
Where the sun glints off a mermaid's tail.
A bird rises up from its gray ashes
Golden, soaring, it spreads its wings and passes.
You murmur in your sleep of that place we cannot follow
Outside, the owl's hoot is mournful and hollow.
But we, the faeries, watch and smile. . .
Midnight's magic to us beguiles.
For in starlight sprinkled with moonbeams
We watch over your whispered dreams.
