Drowning

Always pulled down, held back
stifled and trapped.
Feels like I'm drowning
in an icy cold sea.
Alone, unwanted, afraid
enclosed in a dark fantasy
while thoughts flood into my
mind, one after another.
Every now and then,
I break free of my restraints,
surface above the beating waves,
gasping for air, breathing in
reality for a brief moment
before I get swept away again,
drowning...
