A Thousand to One
By Kym Owsley
I feel outnumbered.
The fight was supposed to be one-on-one,
But the Spectators decided to join.
It sometimes feels like a curse,
Being able to see the dark sides as clearly as others see the light.
I see the light.
I’m blinded by the light.
It’s not my fault if I prefer to stay in the shadows.
I’m rash enough to take on an army,
Take on fanatics,
Take on a God and a legion of demigods.
I’m stupid enough to bare my teeth at the Bear,
Roar at the Lion,
Strike the Snake.
But I’m not fast enough to outrun the Cheetah,
Outsmart the Dolphin,
Outdo the spider.
I can start the war,
But I cannot win it.
For I am an army of thousands in one,
And one alone does not stand a chance,
Against an army of one in thousands.
The End
