The Walk

Walking
By 2,000 people every minute
Listening
To the words they don't say
Faceless
Watching all those stupid liveless people
Wondering
If any of them know the pain they inflict
Harsh
The words
and those looks
Pondering
If any of them know.
That the girl you just bumped into is five months pregnant
That that boy in the corner has no mother
and his father just left him
That that pale kid
had no idea that heroine was addictive
That that little girl
is trying to figure out how to kill herself
That the boy over there
hates everything
everyone
but especially
he hates you
That that man in front of the bank
has no money
but a gun in his hand
That the girl wishes someone would ask
if she was alright
That she wishes someone cared enough
to remember her name
If anyone asked that bleeding kid
to put down the knife
Still pondering
if anyone has any idea
that there is a lighter in her left hand
and a gas can in her right
Did anyone ask that old woman
not to die
Has anyone ever taken the time
to ask?
Just ask?
Join me
and ask.
