Red Light Pledge

Xandra Summers sighed as she went offline her Yahoo! Messenger. She dialed her best friend, Bella Krüger's number and waited for someone to pick it up. Avril Lavigne was softly playing in the background. "Hello?" went Bella's voice.

"Hey Bella," Xandra said, collapsing in a reclining chair. "What are you doing?"

"I'm not supposed to be on the phone right now."

"Why, it's already past your thirty minute limit already? I've been trying to call you five times."

"Well, my older sister used the phone and then Krista called, and then we were all chatting since then."

"Oh." Xandra felt hurt, her amethyst eyes fogging up. "Um. I guess I'll be hanging up now, since you spent your time chatting with your new best friends. Bye."

She put down the phone and dialed her close friend, Samantha Harris' number. "Hello?" came Sam's voice. It was clear she was also typing and chatting with someone via text message.

"Major problem, Sam."

"Hey Xandra, what's wrong?"

"Well." Xandra then explained everything and ended up crying over the phone.

"It's okay. Maybe you can just forget it all."

"Maybe I was just jealous. Thanks, Sam, bye."

Xandra then wrote in her diary:

Dear Diary,

Hey. Um, I kinda got a major problem with Bella. But it's okay. I guess I was jealous. I just want her to know that I'll be here for her. She's one of the greatest best friends ever in my whole lifetime. I don't want to lose her. As the great idol Silverstein says: "Promise me you will be there, until the red light will change. I would wait forever. Promise me you will stay here, until the darkness would fade. I'll wait for you." I hope she'll be there for me. Because if she asks me this, I would be more than honored to say yes.
