The crimson "ON-AIR" signal vividly shone through, revealing nothing
but a large microphone within the radio broadcast room. As her smooth,
scarlet lips swept across the microphone, Nashi's sultry sermon caressed
the ears of her listeners as they sat at the edge of their seats.
"Life fucking blows." said Nashi casually as she spoke into her
microphone. "The District isn't anything but a bunch of dick-sucking, money-
grabbing bureaucrats who make a living out of destroying people's lives.
Where do they get off telling us what to do?? Out of all the teachers,
doctors, scientists, and other assholes in this sanity-forsaken state, you
mean to tell me not one of these people could attempt to stand up to The
District?? Bullshit."
Nashi paused for a moment, as her body remained hidden in the dark
radio broadcast room. Her lips being the only part of her body exposed to
the pale ruby light, Nashi occasionally licked them as she spoke to her
listeners.
"...And another thing. Who the hell told the A.O.D. to get involved
using violence?? More people are getting hurt everyday because of them.
Well... to be honest, I don't really care about those people, but I'm sure
that someone out there cares about 'em. These people have friends and
family who mourn in every waking moment for them. Now I'm sorry, but in my
opinion, the A.O.D. needs to fuck off! They're just making everything
worse."
Nashi paused again, but only to notice that the phone lines were
blazing with callers. Nashi smiled silently as she resumed to speak.
"I realize that there are callers out there, but I can't take any calls
at the moment so just wait a little while longer." said Nashi to her
listeners. "Anyways, where was I? Oh yes, the A.O.D. needs to fuck off,
indeed. Because of the A.O.D., over 800 prisoners escaped from the most
dangerous facility in Neo-Astoria, the Wyatt K. Warner Maximum Security
Prison. What I wanna know is, what the hell was the A.O.D. thinking in the
first place. In my eyes, the A.O.D. are nothing but petty criminals who
actually deserve to be thrown into a Neo-Astorian jail-cell."
Nashi turned to the phone line in order to select a caller to speak
with.
"Okay, it's now time for me, "N", to speak with the callers. Now, of
course, your names will remain confidential as always." said Nashi as she
selected a caller. "Hello, this is N, and you're on "LYNXS RADIO".
"Hey N, how ya doin'?" asked the caller. "I was just wonderin', what do
you think would really happen, if the A.O.D. hadn't done what they've done?
Without them, The District would have a lot more control over us."
"Listen, caller," said Nashi. "I like what the A.O.D. stands for. But,
they have a horrible way of handling certain situations, like the jailbreak
that happened 3 years ago, for example. I'd rather live in a world where
both The District and the Age of Defiance never existed."
"Well, until someone else decides to stand up to The District, I'm
backing the A.O.D." said the caller as he hung up.
"Listeners, I just wanna let you know that I'm not anti-A.O.D., rather,
I'm anti-violence. As I said before, until the A.O.D. find another way to
shut down The District, they're dead to me." said Nashi as she selected
another caller. "Hey, you're on LYNXS RADIO."
"Hey N, I'm a long-time listener, first-time caller," stated the
caller. "I just wanted to know. Who are you?"
"Oh, that's simple," answered Nashi with a smile. "I'm "N". Neo-
Astoria's emotional outlet in which people can express their opinions
without worrying about what "The District" might say."
"No, that's not what I meant," said the caller. "Who are you, really?"
"Oh, you want my secret identity?" asked Nashi, smiling.
"Yes, please tell me," pleaded the caller.
"Do you know why I can say anything that I please on local radio?"
asked Nashi with a raised eyebrow. "Give up?? It's because no one knows who
I am, you jackass! And if you think that I'm gonna jeopardize my job by
revealing my identity to some low-life bastard then you're sadly mistaken.
I hope that satisfied your curiosity because now, we have to go to break."
Nashi abruptly hung up on the caller and stood up from her seat.
"This is LYNXS RADIO telling you to fight the system." said Nashi as
she signed off for the evening.
As the "ON-AIR" signal turned off and the radio broadcast room turned a
dim shade of black, Nancy felt her way around to the exit. Looking at her
watch, Nashi rushed toward Club Axis, which was conveniently located across
the street from the broadcast room. When Nashi arrived, the manager of Club
Axis greeted her.
"It's about time you got here," stated the manager sternly as he placed
a small microphone onto Nashi's hand. "You're on."
Nashi, ignoring the manager, took the microphone and ran to the stage.
The members in the audience cheered her on as Nashi climbed the steps to
the stage and appeared before all of her fans.
"How you doin' tonight, Male Vista??" shouted Nashi through the
microphone as the audience members roared in delight. "Well then, let's get
this started with a group from the outskirts of Male Vista. Let's here it
for, "Unbound"!"
The crowd yelled boisterously as Nashi announced the performing group
and left the stage.
"Where were you??" asked Noob curiously as Nashi entered the backstage
area. "I had to cover for your ass."
"I had other engagements," answered Nashi subtly as she looked away
from Noob.
"Other engagements...?" asked Noob, confusedly. "What else could you be
doing?? You know, I swear it's like you're a whole different person
sometimes. Do you have another job or something??"
"...And be away from you? Never." said Nashi sarcastically as she sat
with Noob.
"Okay, then," said Noob, not aware of Nashi's sarcasm. "You're on again
after "Unbound" performs, so get ready."
Noob left the backstage area, leaving Nashi alone to prepare for her
upcoming address to her public on stage. Nashi, wiping a streak of sweat
from her face, couldn't help but showcase a smile as she waited because she
knew that at that moment, she had the best of both worlds. She had a
presence, and yet, she also had a voice.
