Trapped in a Cage of Ice
February 23, 2004
by: Silver Nightingale

Sitting down a wooden chair,
Staring out the window,
Feeling the cold blasts of savage gusts--
It's as if I'm pushed away.

Reaching for the window glass,
Wanting to be free at last,
Feeling the raw pain of frigid ice--
I drew my hands away.

The once warm and smooth frame
Now freezing slivers to touch,
I gaze at my bloodied hands
As crimson life comes flowing out.

I scream, I tremble, I cry
Trying in vain to break free.
My sadness now mixing with anger,
I screamed, trembled and cried to no avail.

I am trapped in a cage of ice,
Cursed to feel nothing but coldness.
Yes, I'm freezing in a cage of ice--
Someone please come and thaw my heart.

AN: I wrote this poem when we had no class in Filipino. I was in a gloomy mood (as if you guys could not tell...) and I was sitting by the window. It was raining then and the words just came to me. Thanks for reading my poem. By the way, this is the first time I wrote a poem with virtually no rhymes so a review would be greatly appreciated. Kindly leave one if you like.
