AN: This is sort of a repost of my fic Shadow of the sun that has now been removed, it has some of the same ideas, but it is very different, I hope you guys like it.

Serene 25, lives a semi normal. She works two jobs, one as a waitress and the other as a bar tender. She’s in love with a man named Lance Thomas, they live together in a nice one bedroom apartment.

It was love a first sight. The day they met, it was love. They dated for two months before they moved in together and almost everyday in those two months they went out together

Her life is perfect, except for the secret she holds. The secret that shadows her life, in the way of happiness.

Serene was a lonely girl, she never let anyone in to her heart fully. She has two friends Mark and John, they’re the only ones that know the whole truth about Serene because they’re just like her.

There was once an illegal lab, they made a batch of very special babies, there were three of them. They were made to be the perfect human, with very special abilities. When the group of children turned 15, they finally had enough of the tests and training, they escaped.

Things that can’t even be spoken were done to them. Testes to see what they could and couldn’t handle, different drugs and viruses. They went thorough varies of combat training so they can always defend themselves and the ones around them.

The scientists wanted to make the prefect human beings, change the world. They started with three new born babies the took from a orphanage, they ran tests on them to make sure they didn’t have any genetic problems and then it began.

Serene has different powers, she can heal a cut by just putting her hand over it, she can unlock doors and tap into dreams, Mark and John have the same powers but only Serene can tape into dreams and your thoughts.

They don’t know how they were given these powers or even where they were found to put inside of them.

At 15, Serene, Mark, and John were fed up and realized that they were different and can leave if they wanted to, they were more powerful then the doctors and guards. So one late night when everything was quite and dark, they escaped with no looking back.

They don’t know what the doctor’s and scientists are up to now or even if they tried to make more humans like them.

It’s mid-afternoon. Serene is home alone, watching the time past till it’s time for her to get to work.

She was standing in front of the window in the living room, looking out into the streets and the passing cars. And the people walking down the sidewalks. It all looks so normal, not knowing what lives beside them, the different begins.

“ Hey.” Mark said as he walked into the living room after closing the front door. He’s been friends with Serene forever, there’s no point in knocking.

“ Is it me? Or does this town just always seem dark?” Serene asked as she walked up to Mark.

“ That’s how you see it with your eyes, you see what you feel.” Mark said. He always had a way of saying something in away that she understood.“ Are you working today?” He asked as he looked at her with his deep green piercing eyes.

“ Yeah, I work every night.” Serene said as she and Mark sat on the sofa. Serene works so much because she can’t sleep. When she does sleep, she has nightmares of her past and what they did to her. So she works to keep her mind busy and make extra money. “ You coming to the club tonight?” She asked.

“ No, I have something to take care of.”

“ You always have ‘something’ to do. You have no job, what the fuck do you have to do?” Serene asked as she crossed her arms over her chest and waited for an answer.

“ Don’t worry your pretty head. I just came to say hi, but I need to get going.” Mark said as they walked to the front door.

“ What about John, have you seen him?”

“ Yeah, he’ll be by later, he’s been busy.” Mark explained.

“ Yeah…. You too are always busy, one day you’ll have to tell me the truth.”

“ Yeah, someday, don’t work to hard.” Mark said as he kissed her cheek and left.

Mark is more closer to Serene then John. Mark and Serene have more in common and relate more with their feelings. John is more closed off and doesn’t dwell on things he knows he has no control over.

Though their not close, John and Serene use to date for about six months. It wasn’t love, they both knew that, it was lust, they used each other for sex. John has blue eyes and light brown hair, she found him irresistible as did he; her hazel eyes and long blond/ brown hair. There’s always been an attraction between them, an intense and powerful feeling.

They told each other it wouldn’t interfere with their friendship but it hasn’t been the same since they started sleeping together. They broke up because they knew if they didn’t it would destroy their friendship in the end and they’re all they have. Serene, Mark and John are each others family.

She didn’t know romance or love till she met Lance, he changed her life, made her more human. He doesn’t know anything about her past or what she is and because of that his life with Serene is based on lies, the only true thing is their love.

Serene went to her room and began to get ready for work at club Shadow. She took a shower then put on a black mini skirt and a white dress shirt. As she finished getting dressed there was a soft knock on the front door. She knew it couldn’t have been Lance because he has a key and he’s at work for another hour.

“ Hey.” Serene said after she opened the door to see John looking back at her.

“ Getting ready for work?” John asked as he noticed her outfit, the end of her buttons on her dress un-done showing her stomach.

“ Yeah.” Serene said, feeling nervous and odd around him, but that’s nothing new, she’s always felt something around John since they were younger.

“ I wanted to come see you, make sure you’re ok. Its been awhile since we’ve seen each other.” John pointed out as he looks away from her. She’s not wearing much and it’s driving him crazy.

“ I’ve been good, the same you know.”

“ And things with…”

“ Lance?”

“ Yeah.” John said with a smile.

“ You still don’t like him do you?”

“ It’s not about like, its about if he finds out and what’ll he’ll do if he does. I don’t want you to get hurt.” John said as his eyes finally met hers.

“ I won’t. I need to get to work.” Serene said as she put on her jacket and walked to the front door.

“ I’ll see you around. Be care Rene.” John said as he left, using the nickname he gave her.

“ I hate when you call me that.” Serene mumbled as she grabbed her keys.
