Smiles

A simple smile,

A genuine extension of friendship,

Given to anyone open to truths,

Alas suspicion clouds intentions,

Innocent love lost to cruel pretense,

My heart sighs for eyes hiding pain

Hope grasps for common ground,

Embittered vices harshly rebuff,

Thorns tied to a gift offered freely,

Maybe someday we will laugh,

Learn to value human kindness,

Till then I shall smile again.
