Fading into dark doorways
I watch the world rush by.
A flurry of feet, infinite in their
footsteps and paths.
Withdrawing into solitude
I observe each moment,
scrutinising faces,
until I drown in the world.
Pressed backwards,
Jutting shoulders smoothed flat,
and I find myself
Fading into the wallpaper.
Locks become vines,
eyes the dew of the blossoms,
and hands the young leaves.
Solace lies in dim corners,
where invisibility drapes like a cloak.
Fading away; sometimes
becomes always
as I lose my grip.
Melting into the shadows,
I yearn to watch, to see;
to be nothing but the senses,
no heart to ache,
nor thoughts to torment.
Fading away,
into the light of a pool,
the sapphire glow of a flame,
into the rough cobbles,
and the shadow of a star.
Fading away,
into the wind’s whisper,
the harsh cry of a bird.
I find my retreat
in the silence of the trees.
And in morning’s first breath
I fade into the wallpaper.
