-one night stand-

jailed
in the feelings of you
i couldn't work yesterday,
i can't work today;
nor tomorrow.

what did you do today?
what did you do to me yesterday?

looking out the taxi window
the rain is silent and uncaring.
and, the machinery
of people, ticking passed
like mile marks on a bland highway,
does nothing to distract
the mirror
of my face missing you.

i am stuck in
your smile;
the one that slipped
out from behind the enchanting
smell of your hair
as i gazed down on you
inside sliding doors.
you buttoned my jacket
goodbye for the first time,
as though we were longer
than life lovers,
or my dearest friend.
we just met and your
hands cared for me
raw.

from two different worlds
we collapsed into the
night sanctuary of candlelit
shadows and red wine.
the usual needed
madness of aeroplane delays
and places
with chain names,
and cheap breakfasts,
disappeared
for a moon on fire
that will stand for only
one night,
but never forgotten.
