Hello there. This is my story I wrote for NaNoWriMo 2003. (visit for more info) This was my second year participating. In 2002, I wrote about 1000 words and then ran out of ideas. This story has more than 10,000 words. I didn't reach the 50,000 word goal, but I figure that I did pretty good for my second year. I plan to do NaNoWriMo for many years so I still have time to reach the goal.

Read, and tell me what you think, please. Merci beaucoup.

Melasuna lay dying in the desert. The hard rock and coarse sand under her frail body was nothing compared to the pain she just encountered. She saw almost nothing. The sky was a perfect blue, and the sun was shining much too brightly to her right, indicating that the time was around 2pm.

Someone stepped in between her and the sun. She couldn't see his face or any details of his body, but Melasuna knew who it was. He looks like a shadow, she thought. She estimated that he stood about four and a half feet tall... and he continued to grow. He stood, towering over her, and in a matter of what couldn't have been more than two minutes, he grew taller and wider until he took the shape of a man about the age of 20. She stared up at the sillouhette of the man.... of her son... her son that had been born only ten minutes before... the illegitimate son of a god.

"How did this happen?" she asked herself. "How could I have let this happen?" And in a freaky, life-flashing-before-your-eyes-before-you-die way, Melasuna began to recall all the events that led up to her dying in the desert while her demi-god son stood over her.
