~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The next year passed so fast but so slow at the same time for Alexis Robertson. So much had changed in her life. She sat up in bed at her two bedroom apartment. She had ran to Canada that day she left home, she left A.J. She thought about him from time to time, almost everyday. She didn’t have a choice, she much reminded her of him.
It was the middle of the afternoon. Lately her days were boring with nothing to do. She worked ironically at a gun parlor, it paid good money and she knew what she was doing. Now she was working only a couple of hours a day and today was her day off. So now she paced around her bedroom. She was dead tiered but couldn’t sleep. The last time she slept in peace was that night in his arms.
She cursed herself for thinking of that night, their time together. It had been a year, so much has changed. the chances of her ever seeing him again were slim, very slim. ‘We’ll see each other again. I promise.’ The last words he said to her.
The dream she had almost every time she slept, was that they had seen each other again. She didn’t leave alone that night, he was by her side always. Of course she wondered how he was. If he was still an FBI agent or did helping her coast him everything. She wondered about Cane and Lena, they were family, she missed them. She thought of Monty as well, she couldn’t believe he had turned her over to Selivon.
Alexis was in a lot of ways alone now. So she couldn’t help but spend her days thinking of the past and how different it could’ve been. She kept to herself, at work she only talked if someone had spoken to her. She had changed her last name, though it didn’t really seem the cops were fast on her tail. But you couldn’t be too careful.
Even before this mess, she was alone and was perfectly fine with it. Strange now, she longed to just talk to someone. Someone to release everything she’s been holding inside. But she would never find that person she could trust, so she learned to live with it.
She ran a hand through her jet black hair and left the bedroom to the living room. Everything was silent, peaceful. But all the silence left her with her thoughts. She wasn’t always depressed, just sometimes. Most of the time she just thought back to how it all use to be. She decided even though now was boring and silent. It was better then her life before. A life full of danger and disappointment.
It was strange, she thought, it some ways she didn’t start living till that night with A.J. He made her feel, he made her happy. It blew her mind because it all happened so fast. But you couldn’t time love, it just happened.
She smiled at the short memories she had with him, cried at other times. Her emotions were all over the place in the last couple of months. Now she sat on the sofa. Listening to the sounds from outside. The passing cars, kids playing in the streets.
Her thoughts came to a stop when there was a knock on her door. She began to wonder who it was because no one knew were she lived. Her mind began to think of the worse. Shaking her head, she stood from the sofa. She needed to remain calm but that was never easy in her life. Moments like this she wished she had a peephole to see who was on the other side.
After several deep breaths, Alexis finally opened the door. After seeing who it was, she needed more then a couple of deep breaths. She gripped the doorknob to keep from hitting the floor. Her body seemed like jell-o now.
“ Hi.” He finally said, his hands stuffed inside his jean pockets.
Alexis swallowed hard and finally found her voice. “ How did you find me?” she softly asked.
“ I have my ways. I told you we would see each other again.” A.J pointed out as he just stared into her eyes.
She moved aside and let him in. Again too shocked to say anything. Then her mind clicked in place. “ That’s what you said but I never thought I’d see you again. How’ve you been?” she asked because that was the only question that came to mind.
“ Worried about you. But I guess you’re doing ok.” A.J said as he looked around the living room.
“ Yeah. What happened after I left?” Alexis asked the one question that haunted her when others and past memories hadn’t.
A.J looked at her again. “ You were right, Selivon made a deal and told the FBI a lot about you. They have been looking for you but they’re not actively looking for you day and night. I have a feeling my boss knows I let you go but he let it slide. I told Cane everything, he was pretty pissed but got over it when he knew nothing happened to you. Both Monty and Selivon are in prison and have no chance of coming out soon. Oh Lena and Cane tied the knot a couple of months back, figured what the hell and eloped in Atlantic City.” he explained. He couldn’t stop thinking about her in the last year and now she was standing before him.
“ Wow. A lot has happened and not as bad as I thought.” Alexis said, her eyes focused down at her bare feet. She dreamt of so many times seeing him again. Now it’s happened and she had no idea what came next.
“ What about you, how have things been going?” A.J asked. He looked at her, realizing a lot has changed. She had cut her hair. She looked more toned down, innocent in a way.
“ Ok. I ran straight to Canada. Had a little money so I rented a little apartment, started working. Then a couple of months later I realized I needed a bigger place so I moved here.” Alexis explained, pretty fast. She grew very nervous now because she knew she had to tell him everything that’s happened in the last year. Well, the most important part.
A.J wished the looked up. “ Why did you need a bigger place?” he asked.
Alexis looked up. “ First I need you to answer my question. Why did you come here? What do you want?” she asked. Her arms were crossed so he wouldn’t see how bad her hands were shaking.
“ I came here now because I just found out where you were. And what I want is what I’ve always wanted, you. That day at the beach house can’t be the end for us because we never really had a chance to be together.” A.J explained, taking a step closer to her.
“ Why would you want to be with someone who’s on the run. Someone who has done a lot of bad things in her life. Alex you just can’t look past that. I know, because I can’t.” Alexis explained. She wanted someone to talk to, someone she trusted enough, and there he was, standing in front of her.
“ That’s in the past. It’s not who you are now. You’re a different person now and I can see that in your eyes. You look different. Like a new person.” A.J explained, and that’s what he felt. She looked a little different on the outside but there was something he didn’t understand. Something almost new in her presence.
“ So you’ve come all this way to be with me?”
“ Yes.”
“ And nothing else matters. You’re willing to give up everything back home to be here with me?” Alexis asked. Trying not to show any emotions in her questions.
“ There’s nothing back home. That’s why I’m here because none of it matters if I don’t have you.” A.J explained, glad that she finally looked at him.
“ You are really sweet with words.” Alexis said as she felt tears in her eyes now. “ There’s something I have to tell you and I don’t know how.”
A.J hated to see her cry, to see her in distress. “ Whatever it is, just tell me.”
Alexis touched the side of his face. She couldn’t hold it in any longer. She kissed him because if she hadn’t in that moment, there was no way she could go on. Their kiss reflected everything they had both been holding in for the last year, needing an escape.
The last thing Alexis wanted to do was pulled away from him but she had to. After letting out a deep breath, she said. “ I can’t just tell you because it feels too hard. It’ll just be better to show you.” she softly explained. Seeing the confusion in his eyes, she told him . “ Just wait here.”
A.J wondered what she meant. What was so hard to tell him. So he did as she asked, he waited. Before she came back into the living room. He heard the sound. He listened because there was no way, his mind has to be playing tricks on him. But it all made sense.
Alexis came back into the living room carrying a three month old baby. “ I found out two months later I was pregnant. I wanted to tell you but there was no way I could. This is Andrew Robertson Harris. Your son.” she explained. Again she was so nervous it felt as if any second she might be sick.
A.J’s eyes never left the baby. He was shocked of course. And that the same time, happy. Happy that he had a son and with the woman he loved. How he regretted now finding her sooner.
“ Do you want to hold him?” Alexis asked, needing to break the silence. She saw A.J was a t a loss for words himself since he just nodded in answer. Alexis handed Andrew over to his father. She just crossed her arms and watched them together. She wanted to cry again. She sat on the armrest of the sofa. “ He looks just like you, same blue eyes. That made it harder, it made me miss you more.” she softly said.
A.J finally spoke, his eyes still on his son. “ You asked me what I wanted and I told you. But you never said what you wanted.” he said to Alexis.
Alexis grinned at the statement. “ I’ve never wanted anything in life till we were together. Ever since, I’ve wanted you. And now, I want us to be a family.” she explained.
A.J looked at her, into his eyes. He smiled as he said. “ Then that’s what we’ll be.”

AN: Well? I hoped you liked it. It’s the final chapter and I really hope you enjoyed this story. Let me know what you thought of this up and down story called “ Don’t try and fix me.” I named it that because the title is to Alexis’s point of view. But that’s what A.J did, he fixed her for the better. I enjoyed this story, I hope others did as well.
Thanks and Goodbye,
Isabelle A.
