Resurgence

Blood stains on the battleground
once washed away with hope undying
pool again within my spirit,
tempting, enticing, tantalizing,
a soothingly seductive siren-song
as hope eternal bleeds away.

Open arms to non-existence,
warmest welcome to 'never-was'.
Unwrite me from the future coming;
Forget who I was, who I am,
who I could have been,
unchristened in a crimson flood.

Deny myself the blade's sweet burn,
paper-skin uncut, but scarred within.
The soul is shaken,

discovering demons still reside here.

They were never conquered,
as proven by the battle
almost lost.
