"They'll never even know I left," she mumbled bitterly.
Her actual parents died when she was very young, about three or four. They had always been kind; at least Melanie remembered them being that way. She remembered being told they were killed in a bad car accident, twelve-car pile-up is what it looked to be.
She was shipped all over, when finally she was 'permanently' placed with the Fishers.' Now, she hadn't liked them from the beginning. They were always putting her down or saying something to peeve her.
Silently she climbed out her window. When she hit the ground she breathed in the fresh air, since she came to live with the Fishers' two years ago she had been outside of the house maybe four times. It felt good to feel the wind blow all around her and envelope her in it.
As she took in her surroundings she wondered which way to go. each place looked the same, trees as far as the eye could see. After standing there for quite some time wondering which path led where, she finally decided to take the path to the left.
She had absolutely no way of knowing that path led to the of creatures and demons of the unknown.
-
Melanie had been walking for at least two hours when she realized she was lost and or getting no where. A small area under a big tree caught her eye, she decided to rest there for the time being.
She sighed happily as the wind blew again. As she sat there with her eyes closed she heard the bushes move around. Her eyes darted open and she looked around, afraid of what she might find looking at her, but she saw nothing.
Unsure Melanie lay her head back on the trunk of the tree and closed her eyes again. Slowly she drifted of into dreamland not knowing of the danger that lurked in the cursed forest.
-
Melanie awoke when she heard a loud thud. Her eyes darted around her surroundings when she saw nothing she relaxed but that moment of relaxation was only going to last a minute.
Suddenly an enormous figure jumped out from behind the cluster of trees. Melanie let out a loud scream and quickly stood. The beast had a navy blue color to it and stood at least fifty feet high. Its mouth was large and circular; it looked like you could fit a horse in it without even stretching the monster's jaw.
It had six tentacles on each side of it; they were purple and navy blue. The terrifying beast looked at Melanie and licked his lips. "Tiny mortal!" the demon shouted. "Prepare to die!"
With that it lurched at Melanie, she was so terrified she didn't move, she couldn't even find the power to scream. Helplessly she closed her eyes tightly waiting to meet her fate.
Out of no where a man dashed out in front of Melanie. "Leave her alone you foul creature!" he shouted.
"Ahh the fair Cameron here to save her.I've heard stories about you boy." The beast cackled. "You shall meet your end here!"
As the blue beast spoke those words it dove at Cameron only to be slashed with a pure silver sword. "Now who has met their end?" Cameron said grinning at the dying demon.
When the ugly being was dead a sky blue crystal sat in its place. Cameron quickly went to retrieve it. He picked it up and looked at it, happiness filled his eyes.
"Th-thank you," Melanie finally said.
Cameron turned to her. "I did not slay the Orkin for you.I needed the crystal and you happened to be in the way." He replied.
"Well, you sure are honest," she spat back.
"Tis a curse I'm afraid," he said smoothly.
Melanie actually looked at Cameron for the first time. He had hair that went about to the middle of his shoulder blades it was the color of a dirty blond, almost brown, he pulled it back very loosely with what looked to be a strong vine of some type. His eyes were hazel, almost if you wanted to get specific they were golden. His lips were thin yet full, and they had that kissable look to them.
He was nicely built, she couldn't tell how nicely due to the clothing he wore. "Are you through checking me out or shall I strike a pose?" he asked.
Melanie jumped. "I-I wasn't staring," Melanie snapped.
"You go ahead and tell yourself that," Cameron said grinning.
He then turned to walk on. "Wait!" Melanie called out to him. "Where are you going?"
"I'm on a mission." Was all he said.
"Let me come with you.I know I could help in something." She pleaded.
He snorted. "You, help me?"
"Yes."
"You can come I must warn you I will not look out for you," he said turning to look at her.
As he looked into her eyes he ended up looking at all of her. Her hair was as black as night and it fell to her mid-back, he eyes, they were a light blue that almost called to him, her face had an almost angelic look to it. He had seen that face somewhere was the question.
"That's fine I don't need you to protect me." Melanie replied.
They walked on in silence not expecting what was to come.
