Treasures of Childhood

I came across an old chest one day,
And opened it without delay.
I cried a cry of joy and astound,
For inside, my childhood relics were found!
I saw dear old Fuzzy Wuzzy, the little pink bear!
I cuddled once more my baby doll with long, golden hair.
I closed my eyes and reminisced,
The fun I had with them, these toys I missed!
I remember crying whenever they were lost,
Looking for them at weary's cost.
How I treated them like my closest friends,
And how we had fun that met no ends.
I remember talking to them whenever I felt upset,
I wiped a tear from my eye now wet.
I recalled those days when I started to grow up,
I abandoned them,
No longer with them, but with friends I supped.
I even forgot about their existence,
Oh, adolescence put such a hindrance,
To those days when we would play all afternoon in the warm sun,
But now, those days are all gone.
Lost, are those tender years when I'd still play,
Now, are those days when I'm always worried what others might think or say.
I used to be carefree, alive, and vivacious,
Nowadays, I'm so afraid of being precarious.
I close my eyes and let my tears flow,
As I smoothen out my doll's hair bow.
I hold them up close to my breast,
And flash that silly, childhood smile that had long been oppressed.
My childhood treasures, even if time and age may keep us apart,
You guys will always have a special place inside my heart.
