History of a Curse
During her childhood Junel had come across a small spring in the woods behind her castle home. She had grown up in the poorest of kingdoms know as Galendrun. Her castle was small and looked like a large stone inn. She had much time to herself. These hours were spent searching the woods and playing by her small spring. Those were the best days of Junel’s childhood.
One day while at the spring a young man came hurrying through the woods. He tripped over Junel’s skirts as she knelt by the spring getting a drink. He got up quickly and hurried away but Junel noticed he had twisted his ankle and was now limping even though he was running at much the same speed as before. She ran after him to try to get him to fallow her back to the castle to get his leg bandaged. He would not slow down and kept running. They ran through the woods for a good thirty minuets before he once again tripped over a tree root. Then Junel had a chance to catch up to him. She noticed that he was a young boy right around Junel’s age but he seemed odd. He was wearing a torn green shirt and tan leggings. His hair was a sandy blond and he the most frightened look on his face. As is he was appalled at the sight of Junel.
“No, please leave me alone,” he pleaded.
“NO! You are injured on my account and I must bring you to my home for help it is the least that I can do for you. I didn’t mean to trip you,” Junel told him.
“Please, no. I don’t need your help it will only hurt the both of us please you must go. Run away as fast as you can before the curse falls upon you,” He replied trying to get up.
“What curse? I don’t believe in curses. You can hardly stand. Please, let me take you to my house. Nothing will happen to you as long as you are in my care.”
He put up his hand as a last attempt to fend Junel off. Then she noticed he wore a ring on his ring finger, a single gold band. “ It will only hurt you to help me; hurry run. She will peruse me till the end of my days. She is my curse and she is my downfall. Leave before she comes.” He said trying desperately to get up.
Just then there was a thundering sound from behind. A storm seemed to approach. Junel looked around but only saw forest. The ground shook with the rumbling sound. The boy tried to get up but it was useless, he was hurt. “Run, run like there’s death behind you,” he said to Junel.
“Not without you,” Junel replied she helped him up and started to hurry him towards the castle. But it was to late. The thundering sound got louder and louder until it was to close to bare.
“RUN, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN, YOU FOOLISH GIRL,” He screamed.
“It is to late for that my dear,” replied a musical voice coming from a girl on horseback that had just come through the tress. She wore a gold dress and a gold tiara. She looked like a queen but she was only seven or eight. She dismounted and walked mightily towards the young boy and stopped a few yards before him. “ Have you found another girl to your liking my love? This will not do, no, no, no. I am the only woman you shall ever know. Now you girl, what is your name?”
“I am Princess Junel of Galendrun! This boy needs a splint and rest he shall come and stay at MY castle. Now if you would be so kind, what would your name be?” replied Junel putting on a stately air of her own.
“Ah a girl of my name sake, I am Junelle the goddess of Marriage and Childbirth. You must know of me being a girl of high class. Now what shall I do now? A girl talking to my husband this is no good. He should not be fraternizing on our HONEYMOON. And another problem, I can’t have a girl of my namesake running around looking as you do. No, no I cannot I must fix these messes. Now lets deal with the second one first, let me see your hair is a muddy brown; no that wont do lets see how about mahogany yes that’s much better. And your eyes a dull gray no, no, no; lets a see how about as blue as the Ocean. Good and now your skin it is much too bland how about a year round tan. Yes I know pale is fought over but it is much harder to care for. That is good now what will I do to keep my dear husband away from such a beauty as yourself? Ah I see all men you meet tomorrow will fall in love with you but today no one shall now you exists I will make you invisible for today!” With that Junel’s appearance changed from a pale, gray eyed, muddy brown girl to a currently invisible deep brown haired, tan skinned blue-eyed beauty. This was to be her curse.
“My sweet why have you punished this girl so you know I love you and no other,” the boy said through clenched teeth, “ Please turn her back and let us go home.” He seemed appalled by the Goddess but he knew his fate was sealed.
“No Cullen I told you any women who tries to take you from me will be punished. Besides her only punishment is being invisible for one day. Tomorrow she will be the most beautiful mortal ever to live. Now my sweet let us go home.” Then the goddess waved her hand and the horse split into two horse and she and the boy rode away. The boy looked back in pity as Junel stared at what used to be her hands.
“May you find honest love with that curse,” Cullen said to bless Junel but so softly that no one heard him. Many years have passed and Junel has bared this curse by staying in her castle or by her spring were no man can lay his eyes upon her.
