The gentlemen,
The elegant ladies,
The great society of an age.
Was slain by greed.
The large, proud houses and
The wide-open fields
Shattered, torn, and burned.
By jealously.
The beginning of the invasion marked
The ending of the age of
Valor, manners, and dignity.
And so the South blew away,
As if never there and
Will never be there
Nor here, nor anywhere
Again.
