“True religion is real living; living with all one’s soul, with all one’s goodness and righteousness.” – Albert Einstein

~~*~~

Screams in the night, shattering verdant peace,

Faith interrupted, annihilated –

Sacred groves burn, and those with the torches

Claim it is God’s will.   But what god would wish

The wanton destruction of that which

Gives joy and serenity, which cleanses

The soul?  What god requires disciples

To murder, to slaughter those who disagree

And leave their bodies with blood staining

The hallowed ground?  No such god as deserves

Faith could make such requests.  Yet this is the

Decree, this the divine mandate, and the

Devotees act with relish, swift, thorough,

Carrying out their God-given task so

Well that now, fifteen hundred years later,

Their children celebrate the massacres

And demolition with admirable

Ignorance, bedecked in green, besotted

On whiskey, cheerfully paying homage

To the great saint, the great killer, for whom

They named this feast, Genocide Day.
