Title: I remember

I remember long days past,
When I was just a boy of six,
Climbing the clad brick wall,
Mother disapproved of that,
But I didn’t care I was just a lad then.
And now I stand, dirt and all,
Watching the aeroplanes making crosses in the sky,
Marking the dead laid in graves,
I remember that well,
A bitter winters night did bring,
Trench foot to the suffers of the bomb holes,
Surrounding ‘No man’s Land’
And dragging the stragglers to a bloody grave.
I remember that time.
A soldiers body dressed up to fight,
A gun held high in one hand,
Firing to a person opposite,
Killing them in an instant,
I remember that hour,
The poppies lined the unturned soil,
Seeds blowing to the wind,
Amongst the ghost like graves.
Encasing the some nameless bodies,
Those men battled through their sodden clothes,
I remember a time when all fell quite to the dead,
The world saw light again,
And victory had spoken.
