Chapter 2 everybody! Have fun…

4 years ago the thought of steeling an elderly lady’s Jewels wouldn't have crossed Heavens mind. But now it was different, and when an old lady takes off her ruby necklace, even a small ruby, it’s just to tempting to resist. Heaven watched as the woman took off her necklace and placed it on the edge of the outside lunch table. When she bent her head down to look into her purse, Heaven made her move. Quickly she walked as close as she could to the table without being suspicious, and faster than most could see she grabbed the piece of jewelry and stuffed it into her oversized coat pocket. Heaven walked briskly from the Ladies table and resisted her curiosity to look over her shoulders at the woman, and see her reaction. When she was far enough away she slipped into a narrow alley to catch her breath. Leaning against the brick wall Heaven took three deep breaths and ran her fingers through her long hair.

"Very nice," Heaven quickly pushed off of the wall and stood defensively in front of the man she saw earlier this morning, and tried to steal her wallets the night before. She watched as the woman came up behind him and stood with her hand on her hip. "You were actually right for once Jim, she is good."

"What are you talking about?" Heaven asked as she tried to fish for her trusty pocket knife from her back pocket.

Jim chuckled, "I thought I was always right Delia, And I wouldn't try anything if I were you, we’re just trying to help." this last part was directed at Heaven and she narrowed her eyes at them. "Help with what? And why would you want to help me?"

Jim turned a more serious eye on her, "Because you caught me. I've been a top thief for four years and have never been caught in the middle of a job. We rarely enter in new comers but were willing to make an exception for you."

Heaven stared at him, Oh my god their crazy people! I can’t follow them. "What are you talking about, a top thief?"

Delia took this as her time to answer my frantic questions. "Where part of , a guild."

“The Emerald Guild actually," piped Jim.

"Jim stop!" whispered Delia, "Theirs someone watching us. Heaven we can’t talk about it here, take us to your place."

Heaven was hesitant about bringing them to her little shack but her curiosity won over and ten minutes later they were walking into her home.

“So what is this all about?” asked Heaven

“This is about you Heaven,” answered Delia. She walked around Heaven’s small living space. “It’s about whether on not you want to get out of this place, to come with us and be part of the Emerald guild.”

Jim came closer to Heaven and put his hand on her shoulder, “You’ll never have to starve again, and you’ll have people looking out for you, people who will care about you.”

The last thing Jim said struck a nerve deep inside her, someplace Heaven thought she shut away for good. “What exactly would I have to do? I…I wouldn’t have to kill anybody right?”

Delia’s deep brown eyes hardened for a seconds and they almost looked completely black, “That’s up to you, but if you do plan to go down that path you better not be sloppy about it. We’re a group of thieves that have been joining together for centuries and we are giving you an invitation to join us. We will give you two days to decide if this is worth it to you. We’ll be seeing you again.” Turning around she took the rest of the steps towards the door and walked out.

Jim made his way to follow her, “Don’t forget Heaven, bring your stuff to the back alley of Time Keepers Watches, we’ll pick you up there.”

There wasn’t much that Heaven needed to bring, just a few pieced of clothes, her money, and Meadows. She packed everything in a small worn out bag and slung it over her shoulder. Heaven didn’t have any idea what to expect from the people she was going to meet and under normal circumstances she wouldn’t have even considered something like this. Picking up Meadows, Heaven turned to have one final look over her shoulder and knew that there would be nothing for her if she staid.

“Want a smoke?”

Heaven looked at the kid who offered her a slim camel cigarette, he couldn’t have been more then 11 years old. He had on a pair of dirty white sneakers with bright green laces that were mostly covered by a baggy pair of jeans. He was hunched over with his free hand stuffed deep inside his to big jacket.

“No thanks I’m good, but aren’t you a little young to be smoking?” The boy shrugged his shoulders and jammed the cigarette into his coat pocket.

“That’s what the old man says, but he don’t know nuth’n. I’s just thinkin you might one at calm that nervous face o’ yours.” Heaven was startled by this, she had been standing across the street of Time Keeper Watches trying to gather the courage to walk over to the alley, but she didn’t know that she let her mask slip to reveal what she really felt.

“What’s your name kid?”

“David, what about ya?”

She gave a small smile to him before answering, “Heaven.”

“Well ah got ta go, nice talk’n to ya Heaven.”

“Thanks.”

After the conversation with David Heaven finally mustered enough courage to go over to the store, and started walking.
