Grandmother's Touch
By Celestial Sailor
As a child that tender age
I saw your warm smile,
I watched your gifts many
Before me always like
The sumptuous banquet
Made in my honour.
From that birth age,
You smiled for me always
Held me close as I shed tears
Heard me while I spoke my woes,
Healed the bruises that accompanied my falls
And cared for me, always.
From that teenage time,
You spoke to me silently
Your obscured grin and aged eyes
Knew of my failed love
And broken heart, mischievously said nothing
Healed the bruises that accompanied my falls
And cared for me, always.
My unexpected arrivals,
Were never burdens for you
Those late and lonely nights
Were ever so much fun with you
My stay was ever-eventful
As you cared for me, always.
If only I had known,
If only I had felt,
What you truly meant to me
Your departure was a shock
Tearing down the towers,
Bringing death to ourselves,
But from your sunny, fragrant place
Your smile imbues us with perseverance
Just as your wish had always been.
Your final resting place
A gold plaque amongst the grey
Overlooks the park we grew up in
Joyous children, as you loved.
Bright stalks of lavender
Grow through the seasons
Tender buds releasing
A scent like none other.
Deep down within your husband’s heart
Was the blossoming love between you.
Your tolerance was admirable,
Just like the lesson you have taught.
The past is over now,
And we must move on
But as long as we look back,
On that warm and beautiful home
We may be filled with the silence of awe
As we reflect our fond pasts.
Soon,
If only you could see,
Soon
I will be a man, to live and learn
And withhold the legacy of benevolence
You withheld, though did not force
Your will shall be forever,
Just as it is said
Thy will be done.
