My eyes flashed over the sign quickly. "Rayne, you are a genius!" I said laughing and hugging her. She grinned at me.
"Thank you" she said winking and looking over the poster for mistakes. "Personally I think it's pretty good as well!" she said with a hint of tease in her voice.
I am Thorne Kapris. I am 19 years old and I am in a band. Other than that, life isn't that wonderful for me. You are probably wondering about a bunch of things like: Who are the other members of your band, what type of band is it, how did it form. So I am going to back up and try to answer all of those questions.
I
guess it all started about seven years ago when I was in seventh
grade. My best friend Rayne Johnson and I had promised that whatever
our interests may be, we would work together when we were old enough.
That was the year I became interested in music. Playing music that
is. Let's just say Rayne wasn't that pleased. Rayne had always been
the one who was very organized, and had everything perfect. She was
interested in directing movies and me being the star in the films,
but we had a little change of plans. That was the year that I
convinced her that when I started a band she should be our manager.
When we were in ninth grade I met Skye Hunter.
It
was sort of an accident meeting her, but sometimes I still wonder if
maybe it was fate. I was walking down the hall when I heard someone
singing from outside. I poked my head out of a window to see a girl
with long blonde hair singing her heart out in front of a group of
kids out at lunch. Immediately I knew I had to talk to her. I really
admired her spunk already. At lunch the next day, I "accidentally"
forgot which lunch I was supposed to be at and I went out during
first lunch. Skye and I talked, and we hit it off. A couple of days
later we had decided to start a band. I took Skye to meet Rayne, and
the three of us became inseparable. That is when we went on the
search for a guitarist, bassist and drummer.
I
first met Trent on my way to school one morning. I heard some music
coming out of a garage down the road I was wandering down. I felt
myself being drawn towards the garage and before I knew it I was
standing there watching him. He was playing really well and I was
staring at him open mouthed. When he finally stopped and put his bass
down, he looked up, and saw me and jumped about a foot. When I had
explained to him about the whole going to school, hearing the music
ordeal he told me that he went to Lane High too. So we started
walking to school together, and I started telling him about the band
and he agreed to join. Thus we had member three.
Destiny
James was one of Trent's friends that he told us about. After
listening to her play the guitar we all agreed that she was our other
guitarist. So then there were four of us. Trent, Skye, Destiny Rayne
and I were always hanging out, but for some reason we could never
find a suitable drummer.
When
we were all in tenth grade we met Seth Lee. He was being picked on by
a bunch of jocks out on the football field. He had been trying to get
to his next class when they had taken his drumsticks (that he always
carried around, and still does) and he had followed them onto the
field after them. That was a stupid thing to do, but for some reason
we all ran out to help him. We all got pretty beat and bruised that
day, but it was one of the best days of my life. That was the day our
band became complete, and we became "Indifferent". Don't
ask about the name. Not yet. Ok, so now back to where we are
now.
"Don't tell her she is a genius! Her head is big enough already!" Trent said laughing. I poked him in the ribs. Rayne grinned.
"Laugh now, but when tons of people start coming to the shows, and booking you guys you'll be thanking me!" Rayne retorted. Skye nodded in agreement.
"Yes, and we'll beg you to make more posters and grovel at your feet" she said jokingly. Rayne smiled.
"Rayne, you are the best manager we've ever had" Destiny said slinking her arms over Rayne's shoulders and smiling. We all laughed. Seth rubbed his green spiky hair with one drumstick holding hand.
"Rayne can do the dirty work, and we'll play the music" he said. I nodded in agreement. Skye swept her long blonde hair in a bun and reached in a bag full of drumsticks by his feet. She stuck one through the bun and cocked her head to the side. I guess that if anyone had walked by at that moment we would have looked really weird. Rayne was standing there, with her shoulder-length now-blue hair in cornrows, Destiny behind her with arms draped over Rayne's shoulders, her pink hair cut in a sort of diagonal look on her neck. Trent was sitting on the driveway holding his bass and grinning like an idiot. He had jet-black hair worn in a faux-hawk. I was sitting leaning against the garage door, my hair up in a high ponytail and I was holding a big photo album. Seth and Skye were sitting by the drum- set. Seth with his green spiked hair holding his drumsticks protectively; and Skye with her hair up in the drumstick do, as I liked to call it. We were a weird bunch. Correction, we are a weird bunch.
