I try
But it won't be shut out
The irregular pounding of the basketball
Some song from a commercial
And the man's voice
Too quiet for me to hear the words
Yet too loud to ignore
The mechanical hum
And the clicks as my fingers race to write this poem
And the voices and the banging
This is all I can write
When there is no concentration
No precious quiet
But I do my best to write something worthwhile
Maybe to even write something for you
I bet I look pretty in the soft light
The sun's sharp rays blocked by the shade
When the sunset gets red
My hair glows like it's copper
Even though it's brown
Do you think I'm pretty?
I always want to look good for you
With the lipgloss and the jewelry and
The soft baby pinks
I try
