The entire story is based on a prophecy, given many centuries before the story takes place:

The day the night sky turns crimson will signify her arrival. She will be the one with the ability to save the world or condemn it, given the chance. She will be able to make her ideas become reality. As their creator, she will be one of the few ever able to command them, along with the child born through tragedy.

At the untimely demise of the creator, a single figure shall rise. The other child shall seal fate as she lays down her trust. If her trust is betrayed, the earth shall fall at the hands of the one shrouded with darkness. The world's fate shall be sealed in the test of wills.

The beginning of the story is set in the year 2002. When a young child discovers her talent - drawing - she puts more into it than she realizes. Rather than just making a picture, she has the power to create life. She is the designer, and there is another who has the power to actually bring them to life. She doesn't choose to do this.

The main and last part of the story is set in 2075. This really discovers the magic and discovers what exactly can go wrong, and what harm can come from the best intentions. It shows that magic is a dangerous thing to delve in and should consider every consequence before using it.
