If you search for a poem with “joy” in the summary, what comes up are several poems about the pointlessness of life. Query: Am I the only one who finds that viewpoint...stupid?

********

They say, to me, that life is a lie:

For the flowers droop, and wilt, and die—

The stars will fade and the castles fall;

And we shall be cannibals all!

...In a few years, more or less.

.

They say to me, there is no hope,

And in that dark black knowledge, gloat

Over the ashes of broken dreams;

The Earth it will be filled with screams

In a few years, more or less.

.

Then, I nod and turn to go

Into the glistening, white snow

My evergreens look full and well

—though of course, Earth will be Hell

In a few years, more or less.
