Just a girl

Hoping to hear from you

Watching the computer screen

As her pink fingernails

Dart across the keys

Making idle conversation

So she won’t be alone

Where are you?

It’s never any fair

When someone loves you

But you make them wait

You don’t know that she loves you

Outside, the rain falls

Not enough to mean anything

But the soft sunset

Won’t make her hair glow again

And she wishes you could see it

But it won’t happen today

She watches the rain fall

To the tune of an old song

One that you would hate

And she sighs

And turns back to the computer

Setting her hands over the keys

And writing a poem

That you will never understand

You don’t know what it’s like for her

You’re so complex

She’s just a girl
