WARNING: Nothing should be all that offending in this chapter. So all I have to say is after you read review and tell me what you think.
POV: Sasha
“Hannah, how many times do I have to tell you? We’re trying to work in here and we can’t concentrate if you keep interrupting us. So get out and stay out!” scolds Eiron as he shoves his ten year old sister out the door.
“But I’ll be quiet, I promise,” pleads the brown-eyed little demon.
Eiron sounds like he’s about to pop a vein. “Look squirt, get out or I’ll tell mom what really happened to all of her make-up.”
Hannah looks absolutely terrified. “You wouldn’t do that Eiron!”
“Do you really want to risk it?” He glares at her and Hannah scampers out of the room in a hurry.
After Eiron locks his door he returns to his normal care-free self. He sits down on the floor and says, “Sorry guys. I can’t really do much about my sister.” He then moans, “She’s such a pain sometimes.”
“I’m glad I can’t sympathize,” mutters David as he brushes some of his tousled white hair out of his face. “I don’t think I could stand having siblings. Ron is enough of a child for me.”
“Hey!”
Danny nods his head in agreement. “If I did have siblings, I wouldn’t want them to be younger then I am. How about you Sasha?”
I just stare up at the white ceiling.
“Do you have any brothers or sisters?” Eiron asks.
I hesitate for a moment. I never have talked to my friends about my family. “Yeah, I have a brother.”
There is a shift of weight on the bed and Danny is hovering over me. “You never told us you had a brother.”
“It never came up before.”
He gives me a hard look and I stare back into his sea green eyes. “It’s a subject now.”
A warning bell goes off in my head, but I’m trapped. So I swallow my fear and mutter, “What do you want to know?”
“Why don’t you tell us more about this brother of yours?” he says as he sits back on the edge of the bed. I sit up and look at the other two residents of the room. Eiron is looking at me weird and David is staring at me intently.
“His name is Xin and I’ve been living with him for almost...,” I count off the years on my hand, “four years.”
“What do you mean, ‘living with him for the past four years’? What about your parents?” Eiron asks.
I shrug my shoulders and look out the window. “Xin won custody of me when I had barely turned thirteen and I’ve been living with him since.”
There is an awkward pause, but I continue. “My mom died when I was six. I don’t really remember her so there isn’t much to tell. And my dad...haven’t seen him since Xin took me in.”
David asks, “What did your dad do to have lost custody over you?”
“Let’s simply say the last three years living with him weren’t fun.” I turn my head and look at the worried expressions that greet me. “Guys, calm down. It really isn’t that bad. It was four years ago and I’m over it.”
“Then why can’t you talk about it?”
A wave of numbness shoots through me at the sound of those words.
Those words...
Coming out of Danny’s mouth...
They struck a cord I didn’t want struck.
“That’s none of your business,” I snarl.
Eiron shout, “What’s gotten into you Sasha?”
I’m jolted out of my short, but cold trance by Eiron’s voice. I look at Danny and feel like the lowest of all slime. He looks so upset. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to say that Danny! I don’t even know where that came from!”
When I receive no response, I get up and grab my bag. Eiron looks at me and demands, “Where are you going?”
“Home. I screwed up here and I should disappear before I make it worse. See ya guys on Friday for band practice. It’s still at L. Ray’s place, right?”
David nods in reply to my question.
“Ok, then...um...bye.”
David and Eiron say their farewells, but Danny just keeps staring at the pattern of the quilt he is still sitting on. “See ya Danny...”
That is the last thing I say before I leave that room, leave Eiron’s house, and leave that event where it belongs...in the past.
POV: David
Now I know that I usually don’t care about other people and whatever happens between two people is their own business and not mine. Problem is, this time it involves members of my band, so I have the responsibility to help repair things. Damn it.
I turn my attention to my distressed friend on Eiron’s bed. “Ron, do you mind stepping out for a minute? I need to talk to Danny...” I look at Ron pointedly. “Alone.”
Eiron pauses, but I stop any reply he might have. “Either get out or I’ll leave this very moment.”
He gives a sharp nod and leaves the room without a hint of hesitation.
I get up from the plastic chair that sits in front of Eiron’s desk. “I know what Kid said was a surprise to all of us, but you shouldn’t be taking it this hard Danny,” I state as I walk over and sit down beside him.
He turns his head further away from me, shielding his features with his chocolate hair. “So what is it? Is there something going on I ought to know about, Danny? I myself don’t feel like dancing around the subject, so enlighten me as to what is on your mind.”
Danny finally looks up at me and I am slightly disturbed by the distraught look. “He never told me any of this David. Sasha, in the time I’ve known him, has never mentioned a thing about his family.”
“This is bothering you because you two are best friends and you feel a bit betrayed, correct?”
There is a slight inclination of his head, but he doesn’t say anything.
“Get over it.”
He looks strait at me with a stunned expression. “What did you say?”
“Have you told him everything about you?” When I say this, I give him a knowing look. “This is most likely one of the skeletons that are in his closet. And from the way he reacted to the issue, it’s a skeleton he can’t just lock away and forget about.”
Danny nods his head and gazes out the bedroom window at the snow covered yard. “David, you’re right. I don’t know why I didn’t look at it like that before. Now I feel stupid.”
“You are stupid, but we’ve proven that on many occasions. Though this time, you weren’t being stupid. This time you were simply blinded by your irrelevant emotions.”
My younger comrade gives me a quizzical look. “I marvel at how you are able to be such a brilliant individual and such a dumbass at the exact same time,” he jokes. “Thank you David. Maybe if I hurry up I can go apologize to Sasha.”
“Sounds like a plan. I’ll cover for you if you sneak out the window. I feel like messing with Ron’s head for a bit anyway.”
Danny smiles and climbs out the window onto the ground. “Thanks again David. I probably won’t be coming back today.”
I just wave him off. “You’re such a weird kid.”
Read, review and I hope you enjoyed!
